I recently ordered this bedliner:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RKYKWH...abc_6ZKXZ14P3DAB6HH83YR5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The instructions suggested to cut away some bedliner under the lip so the clamps could contact the metal. This makes me understandably shudder cause this seems excessive and I'd rather not use this abrasive method. Does anyone here have experience with installation of tonneau covers who could shed light on whether this is at all necessary for the proper function of a soft cover? Or can I safely ignore this suggestion?

First time tonneau installer, please be gentle to my naivety.

I Installed my tonneau cover with my Rugged Liner bed liner, no problems, the rugged liner tucks under the rail and does not interfere with the clamps for the tonneau cover I have.

Great to hear, thanks. I'll give it a shot.
