Anyone put a tool box in yet?

Not interested in a topper. Got a soft cover on it now. But thinking with the tools i like to carry, everything would be better in a box, as there is no room for them in the cab.

While not a traditional bed rail to bed rail box that butts against the cab, I did install a Swing Case bed box. I have my tow hitch, tow chains, tie downs straps and a set of jumper cables with still plenty of room left for other stuff.

I would love to know how you feel about the swing out tool box after living with it for a month.

I had 2 Swing Cases in my last truck which also had a shell. They are very handy but made of plastic and definitely not as sturdy as metal boxes. Personally, I would not use them in an uncovered bed...or at least would not put anything of value in them. There were also several reports of the mounting screws pulling out when people tried to put heavy items inside. But I did like them.

Really do not notice it is there when I drive. Works as intended. Only nuance is that I put a DeeZee rubber bed mat in and the swing out function catches ever so slightly on the bottom lip. I just have to pick up on the forward end a little bit when I swing it out. Has been weather tight.

While the box is parallel to the bed top rail, the truck and the box still has a slight rake and standing water does pool on the top lid recess.

Check out Pelican cases website. They have all kinds of different sizes, shapes, depths and colors of some heavy duty boxes. I think you could even get foam in some of them. Find one of those that sits flush with the bed rails and that would look sweet depending on what size you are looking for. You may even be able to bolt it down to your bed as well as the box itself being lockable. not to mention the boxes are water and dust proof. And if you ever go to the depths of the sea, some of the boxes have a pressure relief valve built in!:like::clap:

Dragged this post out of the cellar because I have been looking at this same storage solution. It's been about 3.5 years since you installed them. Do you still have them and are they holding up?

Still have it but have ported over twice to my currwnt JT.

Has held up fine. A bit of UV fading but not much. I have changed out the two forward bed mount bracket screw from self tappers to threaded with a nut and fat washer on the bed inside. Felt the tapper screws were pulling and causing to much flex OM the bed sheet metal.

Thanks for the heads up! Pulled the trigger and ordered a pair of knockoffs. I will heed your mounting advice upon install. Thanks again!

Expensive but very secure if you use their mounting brackets and get some good locks

Fwiw I personally didn’t want to affix it to the bed and didn’t care about the swing out or removable features. So i rigged it up to mount to my cargo rails. Had it this way since 2019/2020 area and couldn’t imagine using the JT without it.
