This fix applies to:
- Uconnect touchscreen display / infotainment system
- Controls below touchscreen
Result: Rapid boot of touchscreen and related controls, including radio and air conditioning
This fix has completely resolved the occasional delay and/or flutter of the touchscreen and related components. At first, this problem was not annoying enough to bother fixing. Over the course of six years, the delay gradually increased from a few seconds to a minute or two. This problem did not affect starting the vehicle, but it did affect radio volume and air conditioning. The steering wheel volume button worked (and still works) fine, so I knew that this had to be an "ICS" problem. I didn't find "ICS" until I read the fuse & relay list carefully. There is only one fuse with "ICS" listed (no relays).
Fuse:
F105 ICS/HVAC 10A
ICS: Integrated Center Stack (including controls below touchscreen)
Fuse size: Micro2 / Micro II
Fuse amps (current): 10A
See attached photo of the box of 10A fuses that I purchased
- Also see Related fuse below
Any 10A Micro2 fuse should work. I stopped looking for a spare 10A fuse, in the PDC / fuse box, after checking about eight 10A fuses.
Of course, the correct fuse slot on your vehicle might be different.
The fuses shown in the attachment are 32V (standard).
CAUTION: Disconnect negative and positive cables from battery terminals before removing and replacing fuse or relay
I used needle-nose pliers to (carefully) remove the fuse. Tweezers might also do the trick. Meanwhile, I discovered that there is a yellow plastic fuse puller fastened to the power distribution center (PDC), or fuse box.
Two options for fix:
1. Replace with new fuse (inexpensive)
2. Wipe off brown residue on end of each prong (free)
When the vehicle is running, current is constantly running through fuse F105. I figure that the useful life of this 10A fuse is about five or six years. Then it needs to be replaced or wiped off. I replaced this fuse because I wanted to have a small stash of extra 10A fuses in my vehicle. However, the wipe-off method also works.
I was tempted to wipe off every fuse and relay, but this is probably overkill. In the case of a fuse or a relay, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I thought that the high humidity in the Houston area might be a factor, but this issue also occurred with Maximus Gladius in Calgary. After experiencing the same issue with his vehicle, he wiped off the fuse and got the same successful result.
Related fuse:
F97 RADIO/TBM 20A
- This is the fuse for the Uconnect touchscreen display and telematics (box) module
- Cleaning this fuse also helps the touchscreen and radio turn on more quickly
- Pulling/removing this fuse disables radio, touchscreen, and TBM (telematics)
- Disabling telematics also disables 1) ability to turn PASSENGER AIRBAG on or off, 2) ASSIST button, and 3) SOS button; these three buttons are located above the rearview mirror
- Telematics can benefit both the vehicle owner and Stellantis, but sharing data on vehicle condition & usage is also a privacy concern
- MOPAR part 68379838AB Telematics Module is correct for my 2020 Gladiator Sport, but the part number (and location of TBM in vehicle) can be different for other Gladiator models
