1. Manufacturer-Related Resources

Chrysler or FCA material standard MS-6395 for motor oil
Note: As noted by @Lunentucker in reply #3 below, this doc is from 2013. I'm keeping it here because it's what we've got. If you find an updated version, please notify me by DM or leave a comment.

Death wobble (DW) or violent shaking of steering wheel
Note: In the 3-month period between Nov 2024 and Jan 2025, there were at least 14 posts to this forum on this topic; in my opinion, the
link is a good starting point; death wobble does not occur in all Gladiators, and has various or multiple causes; the link leads to three separate posts: 1) my TSB-/dealer-specific reply, 2) the original post, with broader coverage, by @Lunentucker, and 3) an article about a possible warranty extension on kbb.com; my (stock) Gladiator Sport has been free of death wobble since it was fixed by my selling dealer in Jan 2022

That first link is very interesting!

It lists the specifications of what an oil needs to qualify for approval of MS-6395 and list which oils have that approval…

but…

the oil weights not only include 0W-20 but 5W-30 and even 10W-30!!
It also includes the manufacturers that produce those oils like Shell etc.

Very eye opening!!!
Thanks!

People Work?
Good post overall, but always try to seek out the latest information on any given matter. Technologies, manufacturing processes, etc. change over time.
I noticed that the dates on the oil spec documents appear to be 2013. So there may be numerous new lubricants that meet or exceed the specs that aren't mentioned in the tables.
That's why you should always check your manual and use what's recommended therein.

Good point. Please see my comment about MS-6395 in the original post. Everything else is up to date or close enough for now (chemical catalog, 2024). I checked everything on the internal dealer spec sheet against a copy that I got from my local dealer recently. All info related to the automatic transmission docs (e.g., 96 in-lbs) is current as of January 2026. Everything else, including the ZF URL provided for each ZF doc, is source-dependent.

For a list of ten SAE 0W-20 motor oil products, including six (6) that meet manufacturer specs, please see section 1.5 in my post on Links to Prices. The manufacturers of the other products either intentionally avoid API licensing to keep the price down and stay nimble (AMSOIL SS, RED LINE), or have otherwise chosen not to undergo MS-6395 certification (Super Tech Advanced, and recently Valvoline EP). Note: Both Super Tech Advanced and Valvoline EP are GM dexos 1 Gen 3 licensed (a more rigorous standard), but I will not say that this is a substitute for MS-6395. Another note: As shown in the table in section 1.5, AMSOIL's OE 0W-20 is API licensed and meets MS-6395.

Thanks once again for providing everyone with the torque values spreadsheet.
