Here's a couple of guesses/thoughts out of my ass:
Banks can have differing terms based on mileage. The biggest credit union in my area has more flexibility in terms for used cars with less than 30k miles. If this is the case, then why does the dealer care about what banks will do? Because they get kickbacks from their partner banks.
Or, the dealership might have a policy of not keeping anything with more than 50k miles on the lot, and they can probably make more money off your trade-in by keeping it on the lot than wholesaling it or sending it to auction.

Value. They want to get the most money from it.
If it's possible, no reason not to do it (like if you currently have 30k on it). If you're going to be weighing if you should take that trip to sbux in the jeep or not, you should get something out of your inconvenience.
Can they promise a delivery date of your new rig? If they don't make the delivery, you don't manage your mileage.

I think OP is saying the dealer is asking for the new gladiator to be kept under the $50k amount.
Nothing to do with miles. At least that's the way I'm reading it.

Sorry, I was saying dealer asked if I could keep my 2017 trade-in under 50K miles. When I ordered in December they looked at my trade and said being it has 48,600 miles on it, think you could keep it under 50K miles? I said it depends on how fast my new truck comes in. Anyway, thought maybe they asked because it had something to do with making it a certified used vs just a used vehicle or something.

Probably because there is more demand, thus higher prices, for vehicles under 50k miles. In the age of internet shopping you can easily filter by mileage, and I’m sure 50k is a common threshold for a lot of people.
