Hey fellow jeepers from up in Canada!!!
Just a word of warning for those waiting for them to electrify the gladiator….it doesn’t work in cold weather!!!!
Long story short but the oil reservoir filled with gas and moisture!!!! Dealer gave me a pretty much straight across trade for the gladiator. Man what a cool Jeep, all party in the front and business in the back!!!!
Plan on a bunch of mods after Christmas
Cheers and happy jeepin!!!!

I know from experience with lithium starting batteries that cold weather can be their kryptonite. The first one with A123 cells would not crank the Benelli below 60 deg. F. Even my Shorai LiFePo unit needs to be given a wake up call below 40.

Never heard of your issue specifically but I can say hybrids don't like the cold too much. Back when I lived up north my Prius wouldn't engage the hybrid system at all when it would drop down close to 0. and even closer to 32 it still would take a long time to get ready to go and engage. MPGs would suck and it would make angry noises when I would run the heat. lol

What didn’t work well in the cold? I’ve seen several videos of people talking about it but haven’t seen anything concrete.
If the software sees the battery pack as not ready due to low temps, it may fault out. The IC engine would then be the prime mover. The way around the problem in my motorcycles is to energize the electrical system for 30 seconds with the headlight on. This puts a load on the cold battery which causes the internal battery temp to rise, waking up as we call it. After warm up cycling, shut off for a few seconds and the perform the normal start routine. Granted, this is a small battery due to space available but the behavior is inherent to all lithium batteries. Some large systems use heater mats to warm the pack but, IMHO, it is just a smoke curtain. A lot of folks drank the kool-aid of green energy without knowing or being told of the inherent problems with the technology. As always, do your homework.

No electric mode as soon as it’s cold!!! Called FORM mode, fuel oil regen mode.
Check out all the issues at 4xe forum, there are piles of threads on the matter
Cheers

it was gas leaking past the rings and adding raw fuel to the oil pan, I was 1/2 inch over full!!! It’s a known issue and running the engine up to 210 degrees for 25 mins is suppose to burn off the gas. Impossible to do in my climate!!! -20 now on a regular basis

Thanks for your honesty...was looking at a future 4xe Glad as a possibility...but having been in weather down to -85 (F) twice...know that extreme cold can do weird things to mechanical and electrical systems. In US PA I don't have to worry about -85, but am not overlanding to stay in PA.

This is the part that gets me - and what I've always been concerned about - IF I read this correctly.
Are you saying that the gas engine crankcase - the oil reservoir - had gas and moisture?

Gas engines must be run long enough to get hot enough to run all moisture and gas fumes out of the crankcase. If they do not, they'll not live long or prosper.

Even an ordinary "car engine" must run long enough to get hot and have enough time to "boil out" the moisture and there's always a certain amount of fuel blow-by, especially when cold until things warm up.

I'm assuming here - but if "oil reservoir" means anything else - it's still not purging out the moisture.

Yes the issue was after trying to get it out of FORM unsuccessfully is was -17 at the time. I brought it into my work shop for the day. Because I had heard about this gaining level on the dip stick I decided to check mine.
I was 1/2 inch over the full mark!!! I freaked out and called my dealer. They told me do not start the gas engine. I tried the electric mode and it worked!! Remember it was in a heated shop all day. I backed out drove 2 blocks in -17 and bam!!! The gas engine kicks in and it is very unhappy. Tells me electric mode is unavailable.
Brought to dealer in the morning and they confirmed that gas and moisture were in the oil pan!!! They changed the oil and call Jeep for guidance.
Jeep tells them, the vehicle is operating as it is supposed to.
they protest explaining the issue and are told again, the vehicle is operating the way it is supposed to!!!!
I traded it 2 days later, they sent it to a dealer down in Florida!!! Lol
It’s a dirty little secret about these phevs and the gas in the oil issue. Now I know better!!!
Cheers
