How have all of you been doing it? Ive been to a couple of places around me now to check into trading in and getting a number on mine with less than 10k miles, and mine always comes back about 7-10k less than what KBB shows. KBB currently shows about 3k above what it stickered for.

Even carvana and carmax / vroom etc all come in low as well for me. Guess i'll just make do for now until something major changes within the next couple of years.

The prices you are getting are not all that bad. I assume you did not pay MSRP when you bought yours. Seems like the prices you are seeing for a trade is probably what you paid when you bought it.

Seems like the Rubicons are bringing the crazy high trade in values.

I am in East TN and have the same experience as you. I am getting quotes from Carvana, Vroom (usually the highest but don’t trust them), Carmax, dealers, etc that are $3-5k lower than what I paid (I paid $55k - 8% off of Invoice from Gupton - not including tax title) and no where near KBB trade in value.

I think it has to be just our market where they just aren’t giving the outrageous offers that others are getting.

I have been following this used Mojave at Carmax just to get an idea of local market for used and they have dropped the price $2K over the past three weeks.

Definitely frustrating to not be able to take advantage of what others across the country are seeing.

I also find myself in a similar position with offers well below kbb value & what other forum members are posting. I love my JT & don’t want any other vehicle, except a Gobi Gladiator, which appears to be on the menu for next year. So I’ve been throwing some feelers out on my loaded Sport S with less than 8k miles. Kbb & Carmax won’t even give me an offer. So for those of us who aren’t getting those nice offers. Do you have a manual transmission?
I do, so I’m just trying to find a common denominator here.

yes it’s very frustrating. East TN here too and not seeing the great trade values like others are getting where they are making above msrp on their used vehicles with thousands of miles.

The market in general has cooled off nationwide.

Well I even had this experience when it was supposedly on fire.

Thanks, I’ve been offered between 16k less than sticker (Carvana) and 5k less (Vroom). Kbb & carmax won’t even make an offer. I’m sure there are many factors in this equation.

Yeah I’m not sure what it is other than wrong dealers, my area (east Tn) or what.

Not sure what they are offering on trade in here (FL), but they are certainly asking above sticker for used. Looked at a 20’ rubi with 35k on clock for $59k yesterday, I pulled the original sticker and it was $56k. That’s just nuts.

I hate to muddy the waters more…but…

A several other factors you also have to look at are availability, inflation and interest rates.

Availability: Almost speaks for itself. We’re seeing this now and it’s expected to get worse before it gets better.

Inflation: who knows how bad it’s going to get over the next 3-5 years. A general consensus seems to be forming that it won’t be getting any better for some time and we’re far from seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. This means that your dollar will purchase less than the day before. The easiest way to look at this is the sharp increase in food prices. It carries over into everything else.

Interest rates: this is what pushed it over the top for me and spurred my purchase now or…the end of October. Then, discussions were had indicating the Fed was going to bump the prime lending rate before the end of the year. I was pre-approved at 2 large lenders and was monitoring rate fluctuations (all up) on the Friday and Saturday before my purchase on Sunday. This past week the Fed met again and the majority are anticipating 3-bumps in 2022.

All 3 of these factors can place the vehicle, package level and/or payment out of reach.

Not trying to fear monger, but we’re in horrible times now because of decisions others are making and our only power to address this happens every 2 to 4 years.

I didn’t need a new car payment. I was on pace to have a second vehicle paid off within a year. But I work too many hours and too hard not to have something I enjoy in life. Folks that are much smarter than me had the same opinion and supported my decision to act now rather that put it off another year.

I hope this helps you in your decision…

Not here. Dealerships are empty except for what used cars they can get their hands on. I bought a used Honda Civic for my wife last week, and the parking lot was desolate. He said there should be over 400 cars parked there, ready to sell, and that the chip shortage is quite real. They're trying to limp by on selling used cars for now.
