I noted an odd noise recently, I was driving down a steep forest road with the auto in manual to hold 1st gear for engine braking. As I approached the base of the hill going maybe 10 mph (with the window open) I bumped the shifter over to auto for the next uphill climb. Right after pushing the shifter back to normal drive I heard a brief "wzzzt" that sounded like a servo actuating for a second and a half. It sounded like it came from midships as echoed off the ground and through the drivers window.
Is this something to be concerned about? I've noticed some occasional poor shift choices from the transmission, but I've chalked that up to it prepping 4th in expectation of an upshift and then changes tact as conditions indicate a downshift instead. The gear indicator seems to lag the actual shift, not indicating a new gear until the shift is complete. I interpret this from brief decoupling of the tachometer and speedometer travel, assuming the torque converter unlocks prior to until immediately after the ratio shift occurs.
Do we think this noise event was a function of manual to computer control handover (to the extent the computer affords the driver a say in manual shift), or a normal band clutch or servo noise that was only audible because of the conditions? Or, if not benign, should I be alert for any particular symptoms of concern?
