Tractor Supply has winches 50% off for Christmas. Anybody ever use them?

Plus you get another 10% if you pick up in store. At this price its almost worth the risk for a 10K winch with synthetic rope.

Just keep in mind winches are usually rated for capacity all the way out on the last wrap of the drum. Because each wrap on the winch drum increases the diameter and hence changes the overall gear ratio, the capacity on that winch probably decreases by about half by the time it's fully retracted. Also cheaper winches often have smaller, cheaper motors so they are geared lower/slower and have extremely short duty cycles. Like pull for 15 seconds, wait 1 minute, pull 15 seconds, wait one minute... and that 15 second pull may only be a few feet.

As long as you know what you're buying and don't expect it to be the same as a $1000 name brand, when you need a winch a cheap winch is better than no winch.

I just read the specs and reviews not a promising one. IMHO. That's from someone who is "running a Amazon special" just because I wanted to try it. I've definitely bought a bunch of stuff from T.S. 2 trailers even.

With how much I will use it, I can't really justify the warn. I wish I had a Harbor Freight nearby and could take advantage of the deal they've got going tomorrow on the Badland winches. But alas, I'll risk it and see how this one does. It was $300 out the door when I picked it up. I'm going to run a power isolator switch on it and a fuse. to protect the battery. My gas mileage is gonna hurt after adding the camper shell, the decked drawer and now the winch. LOL. Definitely need to do the regear this summer now.

I run these on my farm vehicles, kubota sxcs as well as kubota tractors and they work well. Never used the big ones but the 2500/3500# ones work well.

That's good to hear. Tractor Supply's website has the typical fanboys and haters reviews so who knows.
