Easy....Buy this and then buy their Harbor Freight synthetic rope. You'd still be ahead. That's a GREAT deal!

I much prefer synthetic rope, but I wouldn't worry....as often as I've used a winch, cable would do just fine. I'd just take the precautions and put a weighted thingy over it.

For the JT, I would prefer the additional capacity of the 12k, though.

But I may pull the trigger on this. I'm going to use it in the HF cradel and only mount it in the rear when needed and take it with me in the bed. That way I don't have to carry it around all the time as extra weight during my daily work drive. Besides that, I think most of the time I would need a winch for myself, I'd prefer to pull from the rear, to pull myself out of whatever I was trying to go through. I could also later add a receiver to the front, for those special occasions. Lol.

Anybody running this winch on sale? Question: is the control box on top of the winch removable? I‘m looking to relocate this box about 11/2’ from the winch(if it can be removed). I’m installing the winch and control box behind the rear bumper of the JT.

Looks easy enough. Manual shows how. Doesn't look like the winch comes with long leads but you can buy them separate.

thanks, I didn’t download the manual. Heading to HF now to double check the measurement.

You'll also want to change the rollers to a synthetic fairlead.
