Unfortunately my truck was hit while parked in front of my house on the street. Somehow the car hit only my rear tire and managed to flip. My truck was pushed forward about 5ft from the impact. There's not a scratch on the body of the truck, but the axle is shifted over by about 1.5-2" towards the passenger side and pushed forward on the driver side. The driver said she was only going 20mph and she was looking at her phone. Thankfully she was okay, but now I'm left to get my truck fixed.

My visual inspection says all 4 control arms and their mounts are bent, along with the rear track bar and sway bar end links. The shop got the truck on 2/18 and since then I’ve gotten their initial estimate saying to replace the left upper and lower control arms, track bar, and axle housing.

I feel like the way the left side of the axle was pushed up without the right side being pushed back would jam the driveshaft forward into the transfer case and do some damage, but I’m no mechanic. They’ve also repeatedly told me there’s no frame damage, but the estimate has 1.5hrs of labor to “pull for sway”. They also said axle internals are all fine. For the tire that got hit they simply state that they’ll remove it and clean off the tire wipe transfer and reinstall.

I’d love to get anyone’s take on things to look out for or any suggestions on how to handle it. My brain thinks bordering on totaling, but the shop says there’s slim to no chance of it

I had a car run up under a Nissan Titan and it pushed the axel farther forward at maybe 5-6 inches and the transfer case and transmission were both replaced. Have a good shop check it out thoroughly because you do not want to have to keep going back because something else is wrong.

Good Luck

Hell of a first post.

There is what they think vs. what they actually know. Until it gets on a frame rack and measurements taken, they are just winging it thinking it is just Lego's and they can just remove and replace.

Who's insurance is running this? Me personally, I would be dealing with my own insurance and let them subrogate the claim against the responsible party insurance.

Unless it is the same insurance company. Then I would look at taking to a third party. At least do an axle runout test.

Here's what I would do, having been down this road before: File a claim with my own insurance and pay the deductible. Trying to fight the other party's insurance is a losing battle; they will delay, fight, argue, obfuscate, and eventually low-ball the offer and repair. You are not their customer and they have no interest in making you whole if they can help it; they just want your signature on the release of liability.

File with your insurance, let them fight this for you - that's why you pay your premium. They will pay for the truck to be fixed and subrogate the claim to the other insurance company. Once they get paid out from the other insurer, you will get your deductible back.

I was blissfully ignorant of how to deal with this sort of thing up until this, so I was under the impression it was better to go through the at fault party’s insurance so it doesn’t affect my premiums, in addition to rental car expenses, plus a diminished value claim should they be able to repair.

I’ve done everything through their insurance up to this point, but with low state minimum liability limits (25k) I presume the window is still open for me to go that route if/when I come to it?

If you were ever considering a lift, now is the time.

Yep! I'm done dealing with other people's insurance. I let my insurance company deal with them. That's what I pay them for!

I already had a 3.5" Rubicon Express lift on it with the extended front lower control arms. It was fine for the day to day, but depending on how it comes out the other side I may do a few upgrades if it seems like I won't be chasing gremlins for the rest of my ownership. I've been thinking about swapping to Metalcloak or maybe some Core 4x4 components and Clayton springs.

If it does happen to get totaled I've got a pretty good idea of all the things I'd want to do better the next time around. Those incentives on the 2024's are looking pretty good.

Id definitely make sure it goes on a frame rack and gets measured? They should be able to tell if anything is off when it's on a rack frame or alignment. Good luck

I’m sorry that happened and I wish you the best outcome, but I have to ask an off topic question. What rear bumper is that? I need to replace mine and I like that one. TIA.
