I think this is where I used the brake rotor loosely bolted on as a de facto slide hammer when removing my rear axle.
The 3 bolt unit bearing hammer trick above sounds easier.
If a slide hammer is not available I would bolt the tire back on and use that instead of the rotor to gain pulling force

As others have said, install the 3 bolts until about a 1/4" is left and tap the bolt heads with a hammer working your way around the bolts. I would also try soaking it in some PB Blaster to help loosen it up.

I would also highly recommend you clean up the axle shafts prior to reinstalling them. I would even put some grease on the shaft so it doesn't tear the axle seals when reinstalling. I had to have both axle seals replaced about 15k miles after installing new ball joints.

Also you do not have to remove any components of the FAD, there is nothing holding the axle in place, the FAD used a Collar to slid on the axles shafts.

I know of a few Power Wagon guys who loosen up the bolts in the back and drove around the block a few times to loosen up the unit bearing.

That’s more ballsy than I plan to be.

It's better than cutting the stud on the ball joints to remove the knuckle so that you can beat on the back side of the unit bearing with a Thor hammer to remove it.

Yeah. That’s awful.
Was installing RCV axles and Danatrac freespin locking hubs on my Power Wagon. A long with Carli ball joints, and Thuren steering linkage.

I need to remove my RCVs to install my new knuckles and dynatrac ball joints. Not looking forward to it.
