Hey fellow owners

I picked up a 8.4” Uconnect. I was wondering is there anyway to update my VIN to show I have the 8.4 instead of my old 7.0” radio?

I am very confused.
Why?
Following to understand the topic.
Is that not the same as me buying the AUX switches or a bunch of other situations? It is a mod, not how the vehicle was configured. Your vin is not going to change that you can use the 8.4Uconnect or am I wrong?

FCA does not provide an authorized path to upgrade the vehicle to an 8.4 Uconnect. There is no support for it from FCA unless it is factory installed.

For some accessories, like AUX Switches, the dealer can have the Sales Code added to the VIN, if the option was originally available from the factory when it was built. That allows the option to stay active when the computer is updated, and not have to go back and activate them again. This is not offered for a 8.4 Uconnect upgrade.

hear you.
But our mech updated a bunch of things pcm bcm and on the uconnect but did not need to reanable or change things I enabled over JScan to be standard, but did not change anything on the vin. He also would not have needed to change after the fact, as the values had already been changed in the units by me.

I get the idea and think it would be cool,

but it is kinda like me buying the mopar exhaust now... I added it, it was not factory optioned and so why would it need to be added to build sheet. I have the receipt for install and parts. Me having added it and installed it correctly, I will not have issues with sensors etc.

Also at least in Europe people don't pay for aftermarket or tuning. You lift a vehicle, you don't get necessarily more than selling the same vehicle stock

Why? If I could get the radio added to the vin then in my mind, I could get auto updates. Of course if it can’t be done. It doesn’t matter.

For everyone asking why, some people also upgrade to get the off-road pages, which, as I learned recently, require a 4g connection to Mopar/jeep to “authenticate” your radio. That’s why adding the code to the vin is helpful.

that is not correct either. I have enabled Off-Road pages. I turned them on with my JScan!

Jeep will not update a VIN for vehicle that was not "as built" already with the 8.4 radio. It is tied into the 4g cellular aspect and the Uconnect subscription service itself. In theory, if you get the VIN undated to have the 8.4 radio , then you are entitled to the Uconnect subscription service. The problem is the company that runs the Uconnect service is only setup to offer subscriptions for "as built" vehicles with the 8.4 from the factory. They are not setup to add new sales code VIN's after the fact.

I mentioned in a similar thread of years back, a guy on a RAM truck forum actually upgraded to that vehicles 8.4 radio with the 4G cell service and got somebody through back channels at FCA to approve have a dealership flash the sales code to his RAM to enable it. It caused a shit storm down the food chain at FCA because of the previously mention Uconnect issue. FCA after that immediately ghosted out that function on the dealership Wi-Tech scan tool after the next update.

I will bring up another thing about putting in a 8.4 radio in a Gladiator that did not come factory with it as I did this with my 2021 Willys. The Uconnect website has not released a single 8.4 radio update that the end user owner can then update their radio on the vehicle. All 8.4 updates to date have either been over the air (Catch-22 here) or through the dealership on a service visit. The dealership is not going to update your 8.4 radio unless yours came with it "as built".

Edit: I forgot about one workaround to update the 8.4 is to buy the GPS Navigation map upgrade that "may" come with a update USB to upgrade the 8.4 radio for the map version in use.

And buying maps for an in-vehicle nav. system is usually a waste of money. The last couple times I bought a map update (not for a Jeep,) the maps were already out-of-date when installed.
Using navigation on my phone has proven the best way for current maps.

I have heard that also. Latest maps are pretty much a year or more out of date. Have also heard any update USB for the 8.4 radio itself is usually not the latest software rev for most. So it is gamble to order the NAV map update thinking one will get the latest 8.4 radio software update.
