Toyota got there first, then Land Rover. Budget constraints = use what you got, then add a bed.

My dad sent me a photo of a FJ45 he took the other day. Fresh resto. I don't think they were ever sold here, were they?

I had a '72 FJ40 several years ago. It was very good. Made a few K on that one. I needed more of a bed than it had to offer, yet ended up swapping it for a '57 Karmann Ghia (do a google image search for "57 karmann ghia" and my car is the artsy black and white-with-a-hint-of-green image with the trees and Texas plates somewhere on the first page of results). Within a month or so of that swap, we ended up getting an historic flood (some sources said 500 year, some say 1000 year), and it was four wheel drive only in or out of the canyon...

There is an interesting history between Jeep and Toyota going way back.

Cool looking truck! Not a fan of the mismatched wheels. I was looking for a mid to late 70s Toyota station wagon for a restore project; Toyota’s from that era have a distinct cool look!

Toyota managed to make it even longer than the gladiator! That’s not easy.

The one in the pic is a South American truck only, Bandito I think. Toyota actually didn't make those, they licensed the rights to make them in SA. They came with a Mercedes small diesel, 3 or 4 cyl.

I was contemplating importing a 70 PU before going with a Gladiator. Perfect condition $$$$$, okay condition $$$ and needs to be 25 years or older.

The FJ/HJ45 is based on the FJ40 but only in a 2 door, never a 4. HJ Diesels, FJ Petrol.

However, they have been making the 70 series to this day. 4 Door SUV, 2 Door SUV, 2 Door PU, 4 Door PU. The 40's and 60 wagons were made for a time, along side the newer 70 series. Solid front and read axels, (They make the Jeep/Dana's look like tooth picks, solid cast construction. Also their diesels would smoke most out there. Current V8 twin turbo, going away now, rumor is back to the straight 6. They are tractors you can drive on the road.

I saw on the highway last week a FJ70 2 Door PU in CT heading to Springfiled MA. Thing was sweet, dude was flying! Pic below.
