Not just stop, but MANEUVER, as well. Too much weight and you can't STEER in an emergency, and the Overland is the narrow axle, No way I'd want to overload mine.Most important thing to remember is not what you can safely pull, but what you can safely stop.
Air bags help with sag but do zero weight transfer so should not be a cure for anything.
Safe loading and safe towing isn't about stopping and going, it's about that idiot that cuts you off or blows through a light and you can't control it because it's high center of gravity, or loss of weight on the front axle means you can't turn to avoid that truck coming at you.

I thought back to some times when I was a kid, seeing some doing just that. Some was hunting raccoons but might have been popping deer too. I think that's why the dog requirements came up. Growing up in 70s n 80s
