Most important thing to remember is not what you can safely pull, but what you can safely stop.
Not just stop, but MANEUVER, as well. Too much weight and you can't STEER in an emergency, and the Overland is the narrow axle, No way I'd want to overload mine.
Air bags help with sag but do zero weight transfer so should not be a cure for anything.
Safe loading and safe towing isn't about stopping and going, it's about that idiot that cuts you off or blows through a light and you can't control it because it's high center of gravity, or loss of weight on the front axle means you can't turn to avoid that truck coming at you.

Just reading through this post. Just did the CAT scale this past weekend. Family of 4 (me, wife, 14 yr, 11 yr). Full tank of gas, lightly loaded bed, we are weekend warriors. I know I’m over on Drive axle, trying to figure out my tongue weight. TT is a 2020 Coachmen Freedom Express 248RBS. I am going to order some air bags to help with squat, but isn’t too bad. Any input would be great!! Thanks.

I am all setup, minus the air bags. I shifted around the wdh setup and leveled out pretty well regarding weight on the axles. The JT is more than capable. What model TT you looking at?

Since I can't use a WDH with my car hauler, and frankly, no one really does with car haulers, I'll need to look into air bags and see what's best. Truck came too late to do any parts swapping or getting the trailer brake controller in so I won't be towing this summer but may as well get some air bags - will be looking around here for reviews and comments on various brands and types.

We thought about a TT, but are now leaning to go Class A that has an 8K hitch and toad the gladiator behind it. If we finalize that then I will work to do a more overland setup on the gladiator.

You could grab a curt echo as a stop gap if you’re set on a hard wired brake controller down the road.

The airlift 1000 bags are amazing and inexpensive. Ill let you know how they help handle the 5,600lbs TT w/ its 715lbs tongue weight next week. If memory serves thats around what your trailer is right?

My car hauler is right close to 5,000 all loaded up and car strapped on. I run about 500 pounds tongue weight. Last fall coming home after dark every pickup that went by on the 2 lane flashed their lights at me even though mine were on low beam (and I even checked the adjustment on them) - and that was with MAX TOW springs!
It tows fine, I just need to keep the thing so the headlights aren't raccoon hunting in the trees with a load on it. Besides, coon hunting with lights shining in the trees if you don't have a dog with you is illegal. I may have to go get a good dog to stay legal.

Which air bags, part number, etc. did you use?
I am thinking that since I like the ride of this truck so much I may have to change my mind, switch gears, go with a spacer lift and add air bags.
Then I have to figure out how to enhance the front for my winch - and an eventual snow blade.

Airlift 1000 kit for JT

Air Lift 1000 Air Suspension Kit 60830 https://a.co/d/6SlBBwc

If you’re dead set on a lift i LOVEA my iron rock off road 2in lift. But in retrospect i should have stuck to the daystar 3/4in front and rear spacers. A little lift w/o having to do any other suspension adjustments .

FYI: the raccoon hunting was what I found funny the need to get a dog. :like: I thought back to some times when I was a kid, seeing some doing just that. Some was hunting raccoons but might have been popping deer too. I think that's why the dog requirements came up. Growing up in 70s n 80s

I wondered why it mattered having a dog or not.........
My ex brother in law used to hunt coons when the pelts were worth something - 25-50 bucks at times. He always took good flashlights and his dog. I recall one time his dog cornered a coon in the corner of a barn and the results weren't great for the poor dog. Those raccoons can be nasty, especially the bulls or whatever a male raccoon is called.

Anywho, time is moving forward - about 3 weeks or so to get this thing ready to tow, it's been in the 90s and 100s lately with dew points in the 80s so not getting much done.

Thanks for the info. 2" is more lift than I really want with my wife's knees already making her tell me she hated how high the truck was. But the 3/4" isn't quite it either. I don't know why they went 3/4" and not 1" or a bit more, must be that the materials just won't handle the extra thickness without distortion or something. I'm sure there's a reason they chose .75" and not 1" or 1.25"

Thead drift.
A male raccoon was called a boar coon, I've seen more than a few dog really torn up by them a few had eyes torn out and really chewed up.
Back to topic: taller coil spacers in past caused springs to bow out and might have created stress problems on them(??) The lack of retention of coil springs at seat "top end" then could come out under flex too. The latter I can say happened, I could flex my XJ and pull out other side spring without any trouble or effort.
