Weight On Front/Counterbalance

Hi guys, long time lurker...first time poster.

I have a Mojave with the 2" AEV spacer lift that I'm about to put on a steel front bumper and winch...so I'm sure that's going to affect the front end. Does anybody have ideas on how to add some weight to the rear to try to balance things out? I was thinking maybe the steel rear Rubicon bumper/bed sliders would be easy, but running out of ideas otherwise?

One way is to check weights of accessories you are looking to add. I added the Mopar steel bumper on stock Max Tow tires and felt the weight upfront. Adding the rear bumper seemed to even out the Jeep. I've also removed the end caps to lighten the front. Thinking of adding. 5-1" spacer lift.

Adding more weight just to "counterbalance" front end weight isn't going to improve driving, handling, off road, anything for your mojave. Weight is the ruiner of all things

Manage the front end weight with suspension adjustments. And just add whatever accessories you want independent of trying to weigh the rear down

I run a steel bumper and winch on my Mojave. I changed the winch line to a synthetic line which helped a lot. I am running the AEV 2 inch lift and a steel rear bumper. There isn't a noticeable difference in height for me but when I measure, it's between 1/4 and 1/2 inch drop for the front.

Cool, thanks for the info!

John, normally that would be my plan as well, but kind of limited on the Mojave. I have a 2" spacer lift so it's not like I can go sticking in a 1/2" spacer in the front either.

Since you're talking about front suspension compression, just for fun, given the rear overhang beyond the rear axle is about 51" and from the rear axle to the front bumper is about 167", and assuming your front bumper and skid is about 75 lb, the winch is about 75 lb, and ignoring the weight of the plastic bumper you're removing:

To "unload" half of the front end weight (uplift 75 lb) you would have to add 245 lb to the rear bumper, and the rear suspension would see an additional 320 lb (compressing the rear suspension 320 lb worth of weight)

To unload all of the front end weight, you would have to add about 490 lb to the rear bumper, and the rear axle would see an additional 640 lb of additional weight.

The ratio works out to be 1 lb uplift on front requires 3.27 lb added on rear. 1 lb uplift on front transfers 4.27 lb to rear suspension

So you can take half of the front suspension compression out by adding 245 lb on the rear bumper, but that's going to compress your rear suspension 320 lb X the spring rate / 2 springs. That's why adding a "counterbalance" weight is a losing battle

Rule #1: Never make anything heavy unless it's required to be mission critical.

Just put the bumper and winch on. Don't add anything unless you're adding a rack for an RTT or bed cap because you need it.

Thanks for the taking the time to type all that out. Interesting when looking at it like that. I guess I'll just add my bumper and winch and deal with whatever loss of height I have in the front end for now...haha!
