Yes, automatic is just for the fans and the direction control (and maybe the AC compressor itself) as mentioned above. It will try to maintain a set temperature. But there is also the other issue where people were just getting random bursts of ambient air. Make sure that's not your problem too. Sounds like maybe you wanted manual AC, as opposed to climate control.

Try and simplify it for your self it might help. You choose say 72. If it’s 50 out, heat will turn on. If it’s 90 out cool air will turn on, but not A/C. That’s it, it’s adjust the blend door actuator to creat the cabin environment near where you set your desired temperature. Now when you engage Auto, it will still be trying to hold that temperature like before, but now the car also controls fan speed and mode control.

And this is without the "automatic" fear turned on... This is just normal behavior of the system?
I have a 2020 Overland with the Auto Dual Climate system. I run it in manual mode year round with AC on and Recirc on and the temperature set to 68 degrees for both zones and air coming out from just the vents. It does a decent job of keeping me comfortable. I rarely use the Defroster or floor vents.

Even in manual mode, with the automatic system, it controls the temperature of the air. It uses the cabin sensor and the outside air sensor to help determine whether to apply heat or cold to the air. It has a little trouble making decisions when the requested cabin temperature is close to the outside temperature. It also opens the outside air flap every 45 minutes when the system is run continuously without stopping.

The TSB is supposed to address the issue with the outdoor air flap. Some have reported that the system behavior is worse after having the TSB done. It works well enough that I'm not going to risk having the TSB change how mine behaves.

Doesn't matter. If you choose a temperature, it will try to keep that temp whether in auto mode or not. All auto mode does is control the fan speed and switch to AC if it needs cool air or switch to heat if it needs hot air.
Not in auto mode you need to choose either AC or heat mode. Auto does that for you.
But when you choose a temperature - be it 68 or 70, it still tries to maintain that.
In auto mode it will switch to AC if the outside temp is 90 and you have it set to 70 inside.
In auto mode it will switch to heat if it's 40 out and you have it set to 70 inside.
In non-auto or manual mode if it's 90 out and you have it set to 70 - it won't be able to cool it down to 70 because it won't automatically switch to AC
In non-auto or manual mode if it's 30 out and you have it set to 70 it won't be able to warm things up unless you manually take it out of AC mode (in auto mode it will switch to heat for you.

That's the only differences between auto and manual or "non-auto".

The TSB being talked about is mostly for those occasional few seconds of warm humid air while in AC mode. Frankly, I think mine worked better before the TSB because now it blows 58 degree air out the dash when it's 40 out and I have the temp set to 68 - that sucks.
I should have put up with the very very rare times of hot humid air for a few seconds when I had AC on.

Hopefully contributing and not hijacking, but today my outside air temp got stuck at 19 degrees, even though the outside air temp was rising. Got to the point where I wanted to turn on the AC, but the outside air temp guard still red 24 degrees and the AC would not click on, just the fan. Maybe our issues are related to faulty outside air temp sensor?

Most of the time, the reading from the outside air sensor appears to be correct. Occasionally, it is wrong and takes about ten minutes to correct.

I got the TSB for mine and it worked wonders. It had been struggling to keep the cabin cool when the weather was hot, even when I pushed the thermostat down to 10 degrees or more below what I would normally set it. Then to add insult to injury, every few days or so there would be a random momentary blast of hot air from the floor that would last a few seconds and go away.

As soon as I told the service manager the cabin wasn't cooling and showed him the TSB, he said he'd already done it for several others and he got me scheduled. It didn't take them long to do the work. I was gone in less than an hour after arriving, and the difference was immediate.
