Definitely. Hearing loss is one of the hardest to get rated for with the VA. Have to really push the effect it has on quality of life. Regardless of actual loss of hearing, tinnitus can have some funky impacts to a whole host of things.Hmmm,
last time I was checked was about 4 years ago. My right ear is forever screaming at me. Mine came from an airbag going off in my right ear. (ON-duty thing, car full of drunks took out my brand new Patrol truck) Anyhoo... when I got evaluated by the VA for disability, the doc said I didn't have any hearing loss, but said, "well, I guess ringing in the ears could be a form of hearing impairment" ?
I'll have to ask about that at the next VA annual...
My hearing loss wasn't bad enough when I got out to be included as part of my disability rating. I had to basically tell my primary care that I felt like I was going crazy, chronic head aches, lack of sleep, major distraction for work and high focus tasks, etc. That pushed it into they needed to do something territory versus playing it off as old age or just deal with it type scenarios.
With costs of hearing aids, if you can get the VA to foot the bill, do it.
