I found out last night that my KC flex era 3 lights that I put in the new bumper fog holes, didn’t work correctly with the engine running. I found out from KC that they need capacitors to keep the jeep happy. I initially ordered them, as they were only $5 including $4 for shipping. But then decided to use a relay instead.

I wanted to use the factory fog button, so this is how I did it.

I kept the light facing factory connector so I could keep the frame side connector. From the light side of that connector, I capped and sealed one positive wire for one of the Oem lights. The other went to the switched 12v terminal on the relay (86) the ground wire from the Oem connector towards the lights I left passing through to both lights. The ground wire from the relay terminal 85 went to the negative battery terminal. I would have used the ground lug, but it’s a bit crowded. The 12v supply terminal from the relay (30) goes to the positive battery terminal, but with an inline 10amp bus fuse. The output terminal on the relay (87) goes to both positive wires (both lights). All connections are soldered and double heat shrunk. Works great. Bright as hell, no flickering, and they work with the Jeep running or just with the ignition on “run”.

Got my JKS geo correction brackets on and test drove it along with the rear track bar relocation bracket. It rides so much better . Should have done those mods sooner.

The plugs and coils could be worse to do, but they’re not easy to get to. Before you do the plugs, don’t use an auto parts store wobble plug socket/extension without measuring it. Most of them are too large in diameter and get stuck in the tubes. I used a plug socket I already owned, and duct taped it to a 3/8 extension. Don’t make my mistake and used aftermarket coils. That’s $300 I’ll never get back, not to mention the time to do it again with new mopar coils after two of them failed within a few thousand miles, and caused misfires on our way to New York last summer. Nothing like pulling your intake in a parts store parking lot. :)

I wish I could come help change out that tranny. I’m sure I’ll be on that list someday. I’m super happy it’s running as well as it is after the pan replacement, but it will go eventually as I plan to put a million miles on this thing.
Are coils recommended? I did not see that in the maintenance schedule. How much do the Mopars run for a set of six?

I am getting ready to do the plugs and serpentine belt on my 2018 JL Rubi 3.6. Probably this September. I´m at 104,000 miles now. I already have the plugs, just need to buy the belt and it looks like maybe the coils.

Thanks!

I live at high elevation and was hoping to get 5 of my lost horsepower back a year and a half ago. It was a failed experiment as the aftermarket coils failed fast and caused misfires. When I did it I figured no harm in swapping plugs out early. They failed on me when I was 1000 miles from home. So we found the closest dealer and bit the bullet on new mopar coils to get us back on the road. I learned my lesson.

I haven’t done the serpentine belt either. I’m stalling on that as I’m hoping to do a PSC steering upgrade that replaces the electric steering pump with a belt driven one. So if need to do the belt then anyway.

Thanks very much. Yes. Brand new. I finally went past the point of no return with the old one. I’m absolutely loving it.

I’m eyeing that one myself. I’ve got the Badlands 12k winch so need to confirm it will work. They’re having the July 4th sale soooooo….

It will not work with the badlands. That winch is too deep and doesn’t leave room for the grill. I barely got my warn zeon platinum 12 in there.

Well shit
If you’re considering this bumper, just sell your winch and swap it for something that will fit. The bumper will last you WAY longer than a HF winch in my opinion.

Hell, sell your existing as a bumper/winch package.
It's one of the best looking bumpers on the market IMHO. Love how it looks raw.
