I found out last night that my KC flex era 3 lights that I put in the new bumper fog holes, didn’t work correctly with the engine running. I found out from KC that they need capacitors to keep the jeep happy. I initially ordered them, as they were only $5 including $4 for shipping. But then decided to use a relay instead.
I wanted to use the factory fog button, so this is how I did it.
I kept the light facing factory connector so I could keep the frame side connector. From the light side of that connector, I capped and sealed one positive wire for one of the Oem lights. The other went to the switched 12v terminal on the relay (86) the ground wire from the Oem connector towards the lights I left passing through to both lights. The ground wire from the relay terminal 85 went to the negative battery terminal. I would have used the ground lug, but it’s a bit crowded. The 12v supply terminal from the relay (30) goes to the positive battery terminal, but with an inline 10amp bus fuse. The output terminal on the relay (87) goes to both positive wires (both lights). All connections are soldered and double heat shrunk. Works great. Bright as hell, no flickering, and they work with the Jeep running or just with the ignition on “run”.
