Knocking it down would be a super delicate process. It would probably look like mierde when it was done. Plus you’d be knocking out the material that makes the liner tougher. You could go over it with something like that black flex-seal or equivalent stuff from a big box if abrasion is a worry. Won’t last forever and won’t stand up to an impact but it could save you from bumper rash.
Scotch bright by hand, start with a small area and see where you want to go.

Where do you even get those clips
Dealer, or Amazon for knock offs. I’ll dig up the mopar number. The fronts each have 11. I usually break 5+ per side. But I don’t remove them without a bag of them on hand.

Retired. Finally !!
Memory snap -

While I was in the Marine Corps, my Dad was transferred to Texas. When I discharged in 1983 I went to Texas "just for the winter" (quoted because I'm still here...lol). Thanks to the popularity of Urban Cowboy, my little sister begged me to take her to Gilley's. About a 90 minute drive each way. I don't own any "cowboy clothes" so I wore Levi's, an Izod shirt and Topsiders. Standard wear from where I was born and raised, right before it was called "preppy". We went.

The parking lot was packed, we were at the very end of the huge lot. At the time, I drove a 1980 Dodge Ram 50 Sport. When mini-pickups were truly mini.

We stand in line for what seems forever, get to the door, there is a sign, "If you do not want a Gilley's bumper sticker, put both visors down". I tell my sister I'll be back. She asks "Are you serious ??". Yes I was, "I don't want that redneck crap on my truck !!". I hate bumper stickers that much.

I go back out to my truck, it's already sporting a bumper sticker !! I peel it off, toss it in the bed, put down both visors and head back. Took 30 minutes to get in. I hate bumper stickers.

We had fun. I wondered how many of these "cowboys" were the real deal. I bet most were dentists and lawyers, all their clothes, boots and hats looked brand new. Tasted Lone Star beer for the first time; disgusting. But I drank it anyways. Drank enough to ride the mechanical bull. The operator asks where I'm from. Stupidly I respond, "Long Island New York". He made a face like I just let loose the rankest of farts. I climb on, he spins me off in less than 3 seconds. Groggy, I stand up. I forgot what it cost to ride, but I wasted that money.

We leave a while later, stumble out to my truck and it has TWO Gilley's bumper stickers on it. My sister peels one, I peel the other. These I toss on the ground, in my drunken mind, some sort or retribution I guess.

A day later while walking out to my truck, I see two more Gilley's bumper stickers on my front bumper !! They got me !!

I still hate bumper stickers to this day.

Got the wiring in the right tail light area done so now if I ever get the harness run under the truck, I'll be able to run the Oracle backup lights via an aux switch. Tried getting back under the truck, had to quit - sick headache again. Yesterday taught me a lesson... so I'll have to do this in 2 or 3 minute increments and minimize time under the truck on my back. Man, I sure wish I had a lift! Went to bed sick last night after yesterday's tries.
Talked to another guy in our street rod group who has the same thing - he tried to change a transmission filter in his van, got sick after a few minutes.
May end up hiring the rest of this done and just resign myself to not being able to make many mods myself in the future.
At least the work behind the tail light, getting connectors on the wire, heat shrink and tie straps, was all standup work.

I also ran another wire in the bundle to hook an aux switch to the bumper mounted Oracle backup lights so I can run them any time I want for light at the rear. That's the reason the tail light is out.
Running a switch to the reverse lights is a great idea, and it'll be nice to be able to use them wherever you want! Camp lighting, trail lighting, or real-world use.. you've got it! 👏🏻

Connecting my trailer, loading a car on the trailer, strapping the car down - they give me light without the engine running and sitting in reverse while someone holds the brakes.
I back up to the trailer, shut the truck down, hit the aux switch and I can burn the paint off of things behind me - seriously, nice work lighting at night.

I have mine set up similar. They work with reverse as well as an aux switch. Handy to have.

Mine work in reverse or with the aux switch. It's how I had them in my other JTs as well.

You can see the diode array I used with the yellow label. Two inputs, and one output which goes to the Oracle lights. Input from the truck's backup lights and the terminal that is empty in this picture is no longer empty.......... it's from the aux switch. So neither can feed back into the other, aux and factory backup lights are isolated from each other.

Mine are isolated via relays as I didn't have diodes on hand. Maybe I ordered some since then. I don't remember 😄

It's actually over the top because I have one switch that locks out the bumper lights so that I don't needlessly blind people in reverse, then another that switches them on and off as I wish.
