one of my tail lights went out. All of the auto part stores say they don't have the correct size bulb. I went to the dealer, they sold me bulbs, which were syl 12v 3157k, but they're actually too big to fit in the tail light housing. What is the correct size bulb for the non-led tails?

Very odd.
My 2021 owners manual shows 3157 bulbs, just like the dealer gave you. I then checked Napa and Autozone parts stores, using a 2020 like your profile says, and their online parts lookup showed 3157 tail light bulbs. I then went to my old faithful, Rock Auto, and they showed 3157 bulbs as well. I then hit some of the big manufacturers. I couln't find an officail Hella application guide. Wagner and Osram had nothing listed by application for a Gladiator. Sylvania and Phillips both show 3157 for a 2020.

Since I have a 2021, I also checked that year. None of the manufacturers I checked showed 2021 applications, so the auto parts stores had no or vague listings as well. I don't think the tail lights changed at all though from 20 to 21.

I'd be curious to see if there is a part # on my bulb, but it's pouring outside, and I haven't even had coffee yet.

By the way, once you figure out what bulb to get, you can get LED bulbs on amazon for just a few bucks. I've replaced some of my normal bulbs with LEDs and they are years old with no issues.

Some bulbs may trigger a bulb out warning on the dash. But if you have a tazer you can adjust that.

The on-line manual (in the Jeep app) shows a 3157. However, the base of the 7443/7444 lamp will work in the 3157 socket. The 3157 has a plastic base on the glass envelope, while the 7443/7444 is all glass.

I wanted to add to this in case anybody stumbles across this old thread like I did while looking online for answers. If your tail lights are non-led, your bulb will be a 7443 and NOT a 3157. I found out through trial and error. O'Reilly's bulb guide was also saying that the bulb was a 3157, but it was too loose. When I went back to the store to exchange the bulbs, I brought the old one with me and a much more experienced staff member immediately recognized the old bulb as a 7443.

Sylvania makes LED 7443 bulbs that you can use to replace them. They cost just a tad bit more. But in theory should last at least twice as long. The LED replacement bulbs are also polarized. So if at first they don't work, flip them around and they should work just fine. This is what I have found to be the case.

Cheers! 🍻

***UPDATE***

LED bulb replacement may trigger a tail light out warning on the dash. Some people claim that this can be bypassed / or cleared through a Tazer or OBD Link. Though others claim that even doing so will not clear or fix the issue.
