Not explored the engine bay yet. Looks like an air intake maybe in conjunction with pcv or is it under the cowl for fresh air for the cabin? Someone who knows better will chime in.

Ambient air duct... that’s what that part number says it is.
It's interesting that the part is readily available at several parts sources (including Quadratec), but there is no explanation of what it does (other than the obvious).

Ok, to quote myself, that appears to be a “cold” air tube, which directs fresh air from the grill to the general area of the air box intake. This is actually pretty cool (no pun intended).

I'd guess it's for a gas engine and not a diesel engine.

Can we get a broader pic of the bay?

It's located directly under the air filter housing. The tube runs into the area next to the grille.

So you're saying this is the intake for cabin HVAC air when you're not on recirculate mode?

Sounds like it designed to flow high pressure air from the grill to the area of the air box so it, the air box, can draft “cool” ambient air and not hot engine bay air. Likely one of many tricks they used to keep the engine happy at full load.

Except that's impossible because 1) the flow is from the area of the air box toward the grille and 2) the airbox has zero provisions in the bottom of it to receive any exterior air other than what comes in the snorkle on the top.

And the plot thickens......who’s our engineering gurus out there? Or is this a matter of computational fluid dynamics?

If it’s open to the grill, how is flow moving towards the grill when the vehicle is moving?

Let’s see some broader shots showing how it sits in the bay.

Ditto. I don’t understand the statement about flowing TO the grill. The flare up at the air box can be for out flow as well. I’d say this is to put a bit of cooler ambient air at the grill up near the intake box. Such an arrangement gets some cool air at the inlet but the air path is still open so if water gets pushed into that ducting, it isn’t dumped straight into the air box.
