I am torn between my next addition. I am debating between a winch and the Hotheads headliner. The winch would be the harbor freight 12k synthetic and I had it on my JKU so I know what I am getting. I know they are not an exact price match and let's ignore the $100 or so difference.

Thoughts?

Based off your profile pic looks like you do quite a bit of off-roading so I’d say a winch... that one time you use it it’s worth it

Headliner with sound assassins all day long. Winches are rarely needed.

Winch. I'm of the opinion that recovery items should be first. Both are great additions though IMO.

My first thought is winch, a headliner is on my list but I would put a winch ahead of it.

I put a winch before the headliners. I'm thinking about making my own headliners, saw a couple threads here about it. Can't make my own winch.

I think it depends on what will be a better benefit to you in the short term (sounds like you'll eventually get both). If you think you'll be wheeling in some decent terrain, better to have the recovery gear and not need it. I see you're in California so the headliners would be helpful for temperature regulation. Good luck!

I agree with this line of reasoning 100%. Winch is functionally useful. Headliner is useful too, but it is easier to live with not-ideal sound and temperatures whereas there is only so much you can do to prevent yourself from getting stuck. Or pulling someone else out. Winches are FUN!

I have both those exact items, and really enjoy having each, but the Winch was my priority.

If you can go with someone that has a winch for a while the headliner will be used a lot more, pretty much every time you drive anywhere. If you don't go too crazy offroad the grade off may be worth it with the headliner.

But then again shit happens and all those times it was slightly more comfortable inside wouldn't be worth the hassle of not having a winch when you really need it.
