First, congrats and heartfelt thanks to all you who make getting into a Jeep easier for those less able!!!! My Father-In-Law is 94, is wheelchair bound, can barely stand, and has minimal upper body strength left, and is midway into the alzheimers / dementia slide. But he FREAKING LOOOOVES to go Jeeping!
So this thread hits close to home.
Right now, while he can still at least stand (albeit feebly), we put him in the front passenger seat. We get the door wide open, and get him up and standing - and with standard Rubicon lift, standard Rubi 33's, and overhead hand holds, he can just about transition perfectly into the seat if we get a small platform to get him to step up on. Then, we help him swing his legs in.
After that it's all smiles all afternoon!!! Of course, he wants the freedom tops off. I don't want to tell him the doors come off too. LOL
My mother in law even loves it. So happy to be able to get them out of their normal living environment and give them a little joy for an afternoon. It's a small price to pay for taking it easy and not hitting the nasty stuff!
Now when they come over to the house, my Mother in Law wants to watch jeeping videos on youtube.
I show her the extreme Moab stuff and tell he that's where we're headed next week. Hahaaaaa! They are both good sports.
Now....they both ask about how the jeep is doing, what mods we did, and where we're wheeling before asking about us or the grandkids.
Gladiator + limited ability Senior care = WIN/WIN for us.
