I have literally been in analysis paralysis over wheels and tires. I have never purchased after market wheels. Coupled with the lack of availability I am just spinning at this point. One question I am having a hard time finding info on is at what point does a negative offset become an issue compared to stock? For example is pushing the wheel out an inch (~25mm) from the frame and suspension too much? I know deviating from spec you're entering territory for issues but is there a general guideline on what is too much? I also noticed companies like AEV appear to only offer offsets that keep the tire/wheel tucked in.

They become a problem when they make unwanted contact. That point depends on tire size, suspension system, fender mods, and wheel specs. Which trim Jeep do you have, and what size tire do you plan to run? Are you keeping the suspension stock?

Thanks. I have a stock Willys. I plan on doing teraflex 1.5 spacers and daystar 3/4 in the rear. I am debating between Toyo AT III 285/75r17 and BFG KO2 315/70r17. So the wheel going outwards is not an issue (if I understand correctly) aka poke, for the suspension?

Not sure at what point but as wheels extend out further it puts more stress and wear on wheel bearings, steering components causes bump steer and increases the scrub radius, all negative things. Don’t really see any advantage, AEV has some videos showing their modified Jeep’s drifting around on 35” or 37” tires doesn’t appear the perceived added stability is needed from a wider stance.

Besides looking into the tech issues you may want to check the laws in your state. Some states don't allow wheel poke. No worries in Florida where my wheels have some poke.

As long as you keep them within reasonable parameters you should be ok. Generally, staying between -12 and +25 offset should keep things working, depending on personal preference. It also depends on what size tire you want to run, and on what trim.

Thanks, I am looking at going from 7.5 OEM 44mm to 8.5 0 offset . Tiresize.com indicates this setup with a 285/75r17 sits out just about an inch more from the suspension from stock. I wanted to make sure this wouldn't put any undue stress on the bearings or overall suspension.

For what it’s worth. I did the EXACT same round and round you did. To me, aesthetically the sweet spot is -12 to -18 offset. For reference these are +10 which maintains a nearly OEM backspace. To be in the same ballpark a 0 to a +12 will keep you there. These stick out still because they are 35x12.50

0 offset should be fine. That’s the equivalent of using 1.75” wheel spacers and stock wheels.

Fwiw stock offset is +44 on a 7.5” wide rim, you need factor in both offset and width to know how much the tire will extend outside the fender or compare to stock.

Thanks. I have been using rimsntires.com as well and according to the tool says 2.3 inches further out. Seems to be reasonable but what the hell do I know :)

@vh5150 I went with the Morphic weel from Quadratec with a 35x12.5 Toyo tire. The specs list the wheel as 17x8.5 with 5.2in Backspace (+10mm Offset).

Here is a shot from the driver window of the poke. If you want I can grab a front or top view tomorrow.

No rubbing but I haven’t tried to flex it out yet.

Thanks! A front view would be great, also are you running a lift or a leveling kit?
