Hello,

I'm trying to purchase a Dana 44 Housing in any state, just the major housing. No pipes are needed to practice pre-loading and training to work in my differential. I don't want to go straight to my Dana open and then deal with unknowns, so I can work with the pinion depth tool. I wanted to dial the pre-loading process ahead of working that on my axle, but I hit a hiccup and had to keep the Jeep sparked for a whole week.

So, everyone, please send referrals to places where I can purchase the Axle housing and even used parts so I can use them to study. I don't need a full housing. The goals are to play with the ring-and-pinion and measurement tools, figure out if I have all the necessary tools, find out if I have missing tools, and so on. So I'm prepared to tackle the real deal.

Update:

Thaks everyone!!

Most junkyards, pick a parts, lqk, etc will have JL wranglers or JTs sitting around that you can get for not too much money if you want to try that route to get an whole axle even.

Thanks, I got it. The hard part is finding a Junkyear in my area here. It doesn't need to be a full axle housing. The "pumpkin" is enough since I want to train regearing. I'll search my area better for junkyards.

The chances of you finding just a ‘pumpkin’ would be much less likely than finding an entire axle. Junkyards… Facebook marketplace…. Ebay…. Craigslist……
Contact your local dealership and/or local auto shops - they might have used parts laying around.

Throwing this out there. No idea if this helpful….I’m in PA. I got a m220 rear Rubicon - Dana 44 wide axle with Yukon 5.13 gears, sitting on my trailer that the Yukon pinion detonated on the road with little warning which cracked the bottom of the housing. Also PSA… don’t buy Yukon gears, they suck.

Thanks. I plan to buy Revolution if I can't find it, then Dana. And a maximum of 4.88 since I heard of people in the same situation of pinion breaking in the trail.

One thing is that the 5.13 is a smaller pinion than 4.88 (obviously). Try a 4.80/4.88; it does not have as good an MPG as 5.13, but I believe you will be in a better spot.

Has zero to do with 5.13 vs 4.88 and everything to do with Yukon making Chinesium junk. I have Spicer 5.38 now and I expect that my unborn Grandkids will be able to drive this 40 years from now.
