Whining sound when decelerating

My 21 Rubicon just went over 6k miles and I’ve noticed that it is making a whining sound when decelerating. It’s much more pronounced during cold weather, but still present during normal temps. Its not the tires - they are set at 36lbs/inch and filled with nitrogen. It tends to go away after 10 or so minutes of driving.

I’ve got an appointment for late next month (earliest I could get) for it to be checked out, but I wanted to see if anyone else has come across this?

I had the same whine and found it with the stethoscope under the truck. It’s the same whine sound and pitch and it was my transmission. Whine started at around 20k kms and transmission died at 32k kms. I pulled an oil sample out at 24k and took it to the lab. Report came back ALERTING to glycol, high copper and iron. You NEED NEED NEEEEEED to pull a sample and send it to Blackstone for analysis. If you have a cell phone plan to Canada, send me a PM. We need to talk.

Sounds like the rear pinion bearings or possible a Rzeppa joint on the rear driveline. Does it change speed as the transmission downshifts? Sounds pretty constant to a stop.

Thanks, I’ll look into it. Did your transmission get replaced under warrant?

The sound occurs at all speeds. It started near the 6k mile mark. Im at 6500 now.

Sound is consistent across speeds. I haven’t noticed any changes based on downshifting. It is easier to hear when I’m at lower speeds.

Not yet. Tech hasn’t dropped the pan yet or done a diagnostic. Maybe end of week or Monday for that. Oil will be full of copper.

How long did the analysis take?

For me, in Calgary, I drive it there in the morning and get the email the next day.

I have very good reason to believe glycol is used at the US transmission assembly plant and I filed a complaint with FCA. No denial from them. It only takes a teaspoon of it to take out your transmission. I did the analysis because it’s a vital step to know the health of the unit. Engine, diffs, transfer case… do them all. Finding glycol also in my engine as a constant consumption and also seeing in the transmission is alarming.

I’ve only heard it in motion going forward. I don’t have a stethoscope - but it is loud enough to hear over road noise when it’s cold.

I ordered a free transmission testing kit from the company you mentioned. I’ll order a separate oil test kit as well.
