Whiny ghost sound from transmission on reverse

Anyone has ever paid attention and heard a whiny scary ghost sound while reversing? I have a '21 JTR if it makes a difference.

I've also got a '21 JTR. I've always liked that sound. Sometimes I back up further than I need, just to hear it a little more. I feel like I'm in a space ship.

My understanding is the cut in the differential gears are optimized for forward travel. Because of this, I have heard of Gladiator owners trashing their differentials when trying to help recover another vehicle by pulling in reverse.
