Hi there. I have new 2022 rubicon and only put little over 2k miles on it. When I first bought it I would every once in a while hear this whistling noise when engine would be idling then it would eventually go away. Noise comes from dash area. Then right before it stops it sounds like a vacuum sucking in air then stops. The noise is intermittent but I feel I’m hearing it more often even while driving. I know I probably need to take it to dealer but we all know how that usually goes. I’ll post video and you can hear whistling noise. I’m parked so it’s not air coming through windshield. Anybody else have this issue? Thought on what it could be?

So…sounds like someone has some allergies and needs to twirl a tissue!

sorry…it was there. With the vid focusing in on the vent. Many HVAC systems are still, to some degree, vacuum actuated. Meaning, when you change from floor to dash face vents, to dash top vents or defrost. Also, then you hit the outside air button and change to circulate. There are little block off plates that move to redirect air.

So this being said, with varying fan speeds, I’d switch it up while driving at different speeds. This is a thought that something may have gotten sucked into the system like a leaf. There’s a pretty significant pressure change when you go from vent to circulate. I’d also run it on vent @ highway speeds then all the sudden role down a window or two. Try placing the HVAC system on Max Air. If these fail to work, pop out your glove box and open your cabin air filter. With the filter out, change up the settings again. This time do it while sticking your face where the glove box used to be. When you press the button and switch over to recirculate you’ll hear and see some flaps moving. When circulation is fully engaged, it should be closed to outside air coming from the cowl in front of the windshield on the passenger seat. If you see daylight…you shouldn’t. If you see nothing unusual, put the cabin filter back in with the arrow on the edge pointing the same direction as when you removed it. It can shift, happened to me before, and it can cause a whistling sound. I’ve also had a whistle and it goes away or gets worst with different fan speeds. If still no luck and it’s bothering you enough, take it in. You may find that UŞA a part number sticker they has an edge up and as air blows by it you get a little whistle…not unlike the pesky nose whistle. You dig or blow the crud out and you’re all good.

Also check to be sure the drain plug on your floor mats up front haven’t come off. If you have rubber Jeep floor mats they will take the drain plugs out of the hole in the carpet and metal floor, then snap them into the rubber floor mat when they install them. Your foot can knock those out or loose and it sounds very much like what you are describing. Worth a check.

Note: I had a little whistling noise with the hood up on my 2020 JTR when new. I narrowed it down to the alternator breaking in... It went away after a while. I am at 56K miles now with no issues.
