The trend of a new vehicle significantly dropping in value the instant it leaves the lot is over. These days, any desirable vehicle will hold value surprisingly well and Wranglers and Gladiators are desirable vehicles.

Used vehicle prices shot way up years ago during the "Cash for Clunkers" program. And dealers make damn sure those prices stay high. I agree there's typically no point in buying a late model used vehicle. There's little or no savings compared to buying new.

Dealers rely on the uninformed.
When I bought my last JKU WW, I was waiting in the showroom for them to bring the Jeep from the detail shop.
I listened to a lady agree to buy a one year old Sport for more than I paid for my new Willys. I went out to look at the sport, 24k miles and less equipment than the Willys I was buying.

This happens all the time because keep in mind, a dealer makes more money off used inventory.

One factor that may play into desirability of a used JT is color; I've had a few people already half-jokingly say to me they'd buy my Gator off me for almost new MSRP. Hell no :CWL::lipssealed:

And I'm not sure where the misinformation on Gladiator resale is coming from, but so far, it looks to parallel the Wrangler which is quite high.

I'm not sure about that. If there was more money in used cars, why would rich people cough up a million dollars to open a new dealership? As I see it, there are just so many ways to make money on a new vehicle:

- Markup from dealer cost to whatever you can squeeze out of the buyer
- Kickback from bank for selling a loan
- Extended warranty (Stupid markup here!)
- Paint protection
- Fabric protection
- Rustproofing
- Gap insurance
- Credit life
- Oil change package (which is really meant to get the vehicle into the dealer for service charges)

Banks will allow a lot more money on a new car which allows dealers to pile on all these extras. I read about one sales rep who was working to sell a young man a new pickup. The young man's wife seemed very irritable. When the rep asked if there was a problem, she explained she had been promised a new washer and dryer and, instead, Lunkhead was buying a new truck. Sales rep told if her if Lunkhead bought the truck, he would throw in a new washer and dryer. She was thrilled. Sales rep said to come back later.

Sales rep drove the new truck to a nearby appliance dealer, picked out a nice washer and dryer and told them to load them into the truck. He drove the truck back to the dealership and presented it with a brand new washer and dryer in the bed. Everyone was happy. Wow, what a guy. Of course, all he did was tack the cost of the washer and dryer onto the loan! ?

last week, 2020 with 10,300 miles, Sport S. I believe it was an Enterprise rental vehicle. Checked it very carefully, no damage I could find. Clean CarFax. $35,000

Used prices are insane, which is why most used Gladiators are sitting on the lot 110+ days. I have noticed a disturbing trend with at least two local dealers.

"Somehow" very low mileage Gladiators, only a few months old, are popping back on sale, at disturbing prices, close to MSRP. What I believe may be happening that the dealer is somehow selling these trucks at full incentive price to one of it's employees, friends or cousins, and buying it back to re-sell at higher profit margin.

The tell tale sign is in CarFax report, and Edmunds record createddate for that particular VIN#.

These claims are not substantiated, and evidence I have could be circumstantial... I wonder how @JeepCares would feel about that.

I am embarrassed this is in my neck of the woods.
Don’t worry, you won’t ever see it. It’s pretty well camouflaged.
