For those of you that specifically picked that option on your custom build, why did you buy it? Mine will be a daily driver...cant see a ton if use for it but dont want buyers remorse.

I ordered an LE, so it comes with it. But prior to ordering I looked for a Rubicon with it and couldn't find one in-stock. While not a total deal breaker, it was something I preferred to have.

I have no realistic need for it. It was purely a want for me.

I picked the front camera option so I can pull up as close as I can in the drive thru.

In all seriousness, I did pick it so I can see the front. I've rubbed the corners my front bumper on a few trees with my JK and the front park sensors a great help on my Ram 1500.

I’ve ordered a Sport S so I won’t get the forward facing camera. I’m trying to find an aftermarket one. I don’t know about other off-reading clubs, but we tend to do a lot of waiting on the trail....the guy in the Samurai is hung up again lol...so I tend to forget what is right in front of me. (I stopped on a boulder...do I need to turn driver or passenger?). A front camera would be handy. Not necessary but handy if I can find one cheap enough.

I've installed a few front facing cameras on a few different cars. Latest was on a lowered '34 Chevy street rod. The owner wanted to be able see where the bumper was when he pulled up to a parking block at car shows. Worked great, and it was a Pioneer camera with Pioneer double-din with dual camera inputs.

I think it would be useful if you are off roading! It may prevent something bad from happening being able to see more of what you are driving over and into.

You know why? Cause you never had a front camera, if you did, you would never order a car without it. I have it on my F 350 and I use it all the time.

JT is a 4 door short bed truck, but its still long at 218 and in our world to little cars I fill a parking spot in a hurry, so I have to get close to the top of the parking spot and often there is some stupid sign there and the camera keeps me from hitting it, same goes in parking garages, large parking venues where cars are nose to nose etc.

It a slap in the forehead moment as you say, "not sure how I got along without it!"

I did, but couldn't order the steel bumper due to supply issues and hoping after market bumpers take the front camera into account by not blocking its view or offering some sort of relocation package for it. I like aevs bumper but it looks like the hoop will probably obstruct the camera.

I ordered the camera as well...I only have about 11 inches of free space in my garage at home for the Gladiator so I figured it would be helpful in getting it parked each night. Plus it should make it a lot nicer in parking lots and on the trails.

Definitely ordered the camera. On a trail it is an awesome tool to help guide you. And in a parking lot it's a handy aid to see how close you are. Also helps if you park your trick in a garage to put it right in the sweet spot. to me this option was a must have. Having had it on other cars I would always get it again.

They said that the hoop is removable so I'm guessing they will sell a shorter one too.

This hoop thing seems to be real popular right now, is there any use for it at all??? IMO it does not appear to serve any purpose.

I'll see if I can find the interview with Dave Harriton (ill edit this if I do), but he says AEV uses them and engineers them to "protect the radiator at all costs". If I remember correctly he used the example of hitting a deer out on a back road. If it takes out your radiator you are stuck. even if there is other damage, you should still be able to drive... slowly but you can still get off the trail.

I'm sure a lot of companies also just add them for looks too.

It is a sturdy looking setup, but for me it just would not do the job. The problem is it only halfway protects the radiator. It assumes every encounter is head on. AEV mfg some of the best products out there IMO!
Most of my OR time was rather extreme, rocks (no mud!) and what I knew was the real weak point on a Jeep is the radiator. Over the years I have a lot of carnage on the trails. In every case the Jeep could get off the trail under its own power...EXCEPT in a rollover that crushes the radiator, do that and its a tow out and I have towed a guy out before. That prompted me to design a better front bumper.

1) Nose guard is there for the sole purpose of keeping my rig from doing a nose over and landing on its lid. The guard at about 45 degrees on a nose over will force the jeep to roll to the left or right on its side.

2) Radiator loop adds additional protection from a top crush on the radiator

3) Nose guard Brace. Note the Brace makes a 90 degree down to the center support bar. It is also curved in a near Roman Arch which is incredibly strong. This design keeps the Nose guard from coming into the radiator in a head-on with a deer or a '92 Caddy I hit at 55 mph when they ran a red light, i never even hit the brakes. See pics of the damage done which was repaired with a can of .97 cent semi-gloss paint: http://www.savagesun4x4.com/offtopic/trips_trip_reports/wrangler_wreck_tj_rubicon_c.html

4) Rock guard and reinforcement bar. 3/16th welded in to give added strength and protect against rocks on the front end.

5) Gusset to reinforce the outer frame and corner guards

I built this out of .120 wall ChroMo, designed and welding.

This bumper will protect!
