About every 8 or 9 months. My truck has a loud thump. At that point the entire radio system resets itself. I have to set the clock and things are not normal for a few minutes. It is generally on startup but not anything else is consistent. I tried searching for a thread on this but I cannot find one.

Check all of the fuses and make sure they're firmly seated.
Check battery cables and grounds.
Does the thump sound mechanical, or could it be the speakers?

It definitely sounds like it comes through the speakers. But it is loud enough I almost think that something hits my truck.

I've had my truck do that once. Retained it's settings but lost clock. Was a loud bass thump. Then lost radio for couple minutes. Only did it once in few years owning it though. Never did it again so figured was some random glitch and never found anything loose at the time.

Dealt with something similar on my RAM 2500. Intermittent thump, radio reset and anything in memory had to be reset. Best guesses I got on the RAM truck forums was a marginal power connection or pin fitment issue. Eventually took the radio out and did a main connector inspect and reseat and the problem never came back.
