Hello,
We are new to the Jeep world, and we are glad to be part of it. Just a question - why is the navigation system so basic? We've been touring around central Ontario, Canada for the last few months and cannot stand using it on trips (lakes, rivers, streets are missing, zoom in and out is difficult...) and the visual aesthetic is not appealing. We went from a Ford 150 and the navigation system was great. Can it be upgraded, or does everyone typically use other navigation systems like Garmin etc..?

Google maps is excellent. It can be used via Android auto or apple carplay.

I agree. The navigation system on the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator suck. It can't find cities - some very basic, simple navigation tasks. Does not matter if I type in the name or speak it - not found. Only way you can find a city is if you have some place in the city to go to with an address.

Works fine for us. It's never been wrong, never failed - where my Garmin has been wrong and Google has screwed me terribly over the years, sending my 2 hours out of the way, the wrong direction on a highway, and landed me in an industrial area while looking for a state office.
One time I told Google to get me to St. Louis and it wanted to send me half-way into Illinois first! Wow. My Garmin shaved over an hour off the Google path.

I rarely trust Google maps. My Garmin blows it away and I like the JT's nav just as well.

Do you have an iPhone? I discovered Apple CarPlay and haven’t used the factory navigation again. The GIAI app is also awesome for off road navigation.

Sorry! The first time I received an error message after trying to post. I guess in the end they both went through. Very new to this forum thing...
Well welcome to the group. You will not believe the help that you can find here. I know I have learned so much over the years.

It worked great routing me through Ocala Nat’l Forest, on forest service roads. Only once it sad to go straight at a fork... there was only left or right...

My JT nav also shows unmaintained roads, frontage roads, parking lot entrance and exit, pretty detailed for the places I've been.
It's hard to say it will or won't have something as it will vary with where you are to some extent - like most mappings. So some may say it is lacking while others say it's pretty complete.
Google maps has led me wrong, as have other systems, nothing is perfect, some better than others depending on where you are.
