That's pretty sweet.

Here is my idea. It's 6' long, 28" wide. So I can use the winch to pull it out of the basement as it will fit through the door, if I move it to a shop some day. The yellow blocks are mockup's as a table saw and miter saw placeholder. The miter saw is held in place by some slide locks and sits on a polished brass 2" tube so it fully rotates. The top edge will be a butcher table so it should be thick enough for some dogholes and track extensions for the table saw. The left side of the table (if your looking at the table saw) will have a 2 or 3 foot fold up butcher block table extension for ripping larger sheets of plywood or longer pieces of wood stock. Then a second table will be the same dimensions to hold a plainer that will rotate like the miter saw, and a router. I think I'm just going to make a jig that will effectively turn the table saw into a jointer.

Then I will have to make another table that can fold up agains one of the walls to hold a CNC machine. I'm planning on starting a small, in my spare time, business for wood products and photos so I can take those proceeds and donate to a few charities and groups that do good work to help the less fortunate.

Oh and I plan to have the whole table held together by old school methods - probably dowels to make it easier, so no screws or nails, just wood and glue.
That would be a good setup. Mine rotate on a tube also and are held in place with the screw handles. Yours will need to be a bit more finished than mine since it will double as a work table.

Cool. So the top plywood sandwich just pops out and flips? Genius. I’ll build one for my drill press and a bandsaw. It’ll be 13’ high. I’ll need a ladder to use the top tool. Totally reasonable.
There is a tube in the middle that it rotates on. I will take another photo after dinner. A flip table for a band saw and drill press would be impressive.

I had a better video, but had to cut it down due to size. But this is a more practical video.

That’s fantastic. I love simple projects that create more space.

Very nice stuff here, guys. I wish I had 1/10th of your skills and an actual shop space instead of an 8x12 shed to work out of. I've only done a couple radiator covers for the house, built in shelving. I can do framing and trim, I want to get into finer woodworking like cabinet building. Just have to wait until the weather allows so I can pull my table saw and miter out. I am getting a new miter this coming year. Doing step up crown moulding with my 10" in the fall was not pleasant. 12" is coming because she wants me to shoot it in all over the damned house now!

BTT: I milled a 40 foot storm fall black cherry in 2020 with a friend and his Alaska. It dulled the chain on my MS251 bucking it down like it was its job. I did make crab mallets for my family and friends for Christmas in 2022 from it. Still have a 4 ft section left that I need to do something with.

@OP you ever find someone to mill your lumber?

Oh man that's awesome! I bet that last 4' section would look really nice in your Gladiator somewhere!

I never found anyone. I swear this little town I live in is SO weird. I dont think I will stay here for too many years which is unfortunate because I really like being close to hundreds of miles of dirt road and the house I purchased is actually affordable! Maybe long enough to fix the house up and switch over to a fully remote job and relocate. It's just a strange town with very very strange dynamics. I cannot find anyone who wants to do work on anything yet everyone complains about not making money around here. Most of them have jobs but apparently don't want to do the job they have. Contractors to work on the house for things I can't do either do super shotty work or want to totally rape you and your 5 generations of grandkids - and still do poor work. This, being essentially a logging town entirely supported by the gov, despite the mill having closed 3 years ago, has several small time loggers that do very small jobs or buy logs from Weyerhaeuser or IGF or one of the big companies and just mill wood to sell locally. Literally none of them have stuck to their word. I had probably 5 of those kinda guys say "oh yeah we can mill that up easy no problem". but then every single one of them fell back on their word and it never even got to the point of discussing cost. So needless to say I will be working up a jig to try and mill the rest this summer with my table saw. It's the only option really. I dont want to go buying a mill, even an alaskan, just for one job. And my soon to be ex supervisor, is falling into that category as well. He bought a full on portable mill 3 years ago to thin and clean up his 40 acres and mill the wood to make shed's or fix up his property. But that mill is just sitting there. He hasn't even put it together. Lol man over 5K and not even using it. So no, I am on my own. In this town, despite it supposedly being a 'community' that helps each other, you are essentially on your own for everything. A couple of my neighbors are awesome and have helped with a few small things, like 'hey hold that wrench for 2 minutes'. Or 'can I borrow your little tractor for an hour'. But past that......

That's a damned shame. Maybe you can take ex supervisor's mill off his hands... because in my head that's an opportunity to make some money. You clearly have no competition...

I don't know what the cherry will wind up in but vehicular has come to mind. I'd love to find the time to build a camping chuckbox but that would be heavy as hell.

I’ve had several situations where I originally want to pay someone to do something, and end up tooling up to do it myself. I actually bought an Alaskan sawmill for one job a couple of years ago. It wasn’t expensive and worked quite well. If you were closer, you’d be welcome to borrow it.

Well make sure you post it up here whenever you do put it to use! I agree theres no competition here for a motivated person.

Yeah I have done quite a bit of that too, getting tools for an immediate need only to end up using them significantly in the future. If I had even an acre with trees I would definitely have gotten one. My neighbor recently showed interest in my unused Shil full wrap 362. I haven't even started it in over a year hah. And man if I was closer I would totally borrow your alaskan!

By the way how you liking the new shock setup?

I’ve got maybe 12 miles of town driving on them, but they’re amazing. I hit the interstate for one exit, and they sought out unplowed back roads to try bumps at speed. It’s nuts now.

Can you educate me on the ful wrap term? I’m assuming the saw is a stihl 362, but I don’t know what full wrap is. I’m a novice for sure. I’ve got to husq saws, one 345, and one 460 I think. I could be a 455. I can’t remember. I “had to” buy the 450+ for the Alaskan. My wife looked at me and just rolled her eyes. The 345 wouldn’t handle the longer bar with a ripping chain.

Take a look at the first two pictures. The first pic is a standard wrap and the second you can see the extra bar on the right hand side. It's basically a bar that wraps around 3 sides of the saw. It helps quite a bit when doing odd angle work and really is just in the realm of professionals. But for sthil the full wrap options usually include additional oiling options and two heavy duty dogs up front instead of just one, which does help a lot in certain situations.

Quite nice. I’ll have to take a look at my saws. They’ve been in the cases since September.
