Had a winch/hitch receiver on my old Renegade. Everytime I got stuck it was always easier to get pulled out backwards like below.

No way I could've been pulled out from the front without major damage.

Them "little mud puddle's" can be deep especially there in Florida "Y'all have sinkholes" I remember reading and seeing photos of Ocala one at a place I've been at many times.

I had mine wired in to the battery using 2/0 or 4/0 gauge battery cable. I wired it like you would if you were putting a winch on a trailer. Had a quick disconnect like below.

I was thinking welding cable due to the flexibility and distance unless I somehow had a rear battery (a lot of extra work and weight)
I do plan on a small winch on my car hauler, this is a good idea for that.

Never had a winch. But it always seemed to me a rear winch would enable one to back out of the trouble one got into.

Unless, of course you ascribe to the Rubicon attitude. And I don't mean the trail in California.
