The Kaiser Jeep was a 1+1⁄4-ton with a removable top. It was based on the civilian Jeep Gladiator.

Jeep Gladiator Would Jeep ever off a 3/4 Ton Gladiator? {filename}
Yes, this! They could find enough room in that face to supply adequate cooling. Alternatively, if adopted the EU trailering speed limits tow capacity would likewise increase a meaningful amount for free.

That M-175 looks cool (not as cool as the current Gladiator, IMO), but it's a pile of shit. And it rides like an old hay wagon.

Let's pretend for a minute that Stellantis has decided to go that route and produce a retro style M-175 but for civilian use. The first thing they would do is completely abandon the suspension system in favor of something that people would actually buy that didn't break their ribs over railroad tracks. Guess what? You've just lost payload. You're not a 5/4 ton anymore.

Go ride in a brand new Ram 3500, then ask yourself if that's what you want your off-road Jeep Gladiator to ride like. The answer for most people would be f*** no. There is no such thing as having your cake and eating it, too. The current Jeep Gladiator is about as perfect an off-road truck as has ever been domestically produced.
Nothing about an MB Jeep is on our vehicles either, not the 4 cyl carbureted engine, the leaf springs, or rock-hard seats. It's just a design study, the same way the open fenders, round headlights, and slotted grille made it to the JT and JL. The J-10 and M-714 styling makes more sense with all the crap a modern engine needs to function, it allows more underhood space for air flow, accessories, wiring, and emissions than a narrow hood with flying fenders.

As a pickup. With some overlanding focus. Could Jeep offer a heavy duty Gladiator?

Not a full size truck. A midsized truck with a slightly beefier frame/ axles to support a lot more load. So a camper and gear and people could be in the truck legally.

HD Gladiator with dana 60/80 axles. A high tq v8. And a 3000 lbs load rating i think would be a seller

I dont think trailering would help a lot but maybe get to 9500 lbs so a full sized travel.trailer or a car hauler could be pulled easy

Also would avoid cafe fuel targets.
The old Ford F250's had Dana 44 axles ,essentially the 44 axle is a "¾" ton axle but the suspension is not set up for it. The old 250's had a huge stack of leaf springs much more stable that coil springs.

Retired. Beach bum.
It’s totally possible for Jeep to build a HD pickup. But not look like a Wrangler due to air flow for cooling issues. The old M715, was what was called in The Army when I was in The Motorpool a 5/4 ton. That could haul a tow quite a bit. But they have everything they need, the HD 4500 Ram chassis and drivetrain to start, then break out the old plans for the cab, add a couple doors and expand the passenger compartment safety cage and cloth roof from the Gladiator, then remanufacture that HD step side body. Looks great in my mind! Even use the 3.0 HO Hurricane like the original!
