Its the diesel derating issue that concerns me in the heat. This past weekend was the start of camping season for us in the desert. On the way up to cooler campgrounds I saw oil temps up to 245 on the steeper inclines. If I was towing anything I would have needed to slow way down and I don’t feel safe doing 55-60 when others zoom past at 90+ on the stretches of Utah highway with 80mph speed limits.

I suppose I can build a small trailer too, but I haven’t convinced myself that’s really too much better than tent camping. If I’m going to tow living quarters it had better have a place to poo, shower and have an a/c. Maybe a pop up can fit me too. I haven’t looked too terribly hard honestly.
Check out an aliner expedition. Hard sided popup that tows super easy due to it's low height. We absolutely love ours and how much space it gives us with out a lot of difficulty towing or setting up/tearing down.

Like I said, the f150 out specs the ram for sure.
It really doesn’t. I’m not sure why you’d say that. You made a better purchase.

maybe I misunderstood. The Ram 1500 is a better all around and nicer driving truck, but the F-150 does have a higher available tow and payload rating.

I agree I made the better purchase. But on paper, the ford has better MPG, max payload, and max towing. But the MPG is only 1mpg better and of course the rest all depends on trims and packages. The RAM interior sold me. I have never owned a vehicle with such nice interior.

See my edit. It’s a toss up to me if I was in the market for a new full sized between another GMC and the Ram 1500. I disagree about the GM interiors, but I always buy towards the top spec. The Ram Limited interior is stupid nice. I’ve never understood why GM never calls out ford on their number one selling truck claim. Combine Chevy and GM and they perennially outsell them.

Because gm fullsize trucks suck...

I have owned the big three fullsize trucks. Most problematic are gm and Chevy.

Second least problem is Ford.

Least to zero problem is ram.

Now for performance and capacity is Ford. For daily comfort, best combined mpg is ram.

My f150 is an xlt powerboost its been averaging 24.5 mpg, has 430 hp and can tow 12700 #'s
If it's a 2.7 v6 maybe u get 24mpg but no way in hell you get 12700 lbs tow rating.

3.5 eb will do 12700lbs but no freaking way 24mpg unless you cruise at 55 to 60 which is impossible in urban or interstate. So be truthful here with a 3.5 eb 10speed max tow owner

24.5 mpg is higher than the highway mpg. He’s probably getting 18 mpg towing. ;) I’ve learned to ignore people’s claims of mpg. They always seem to easily get the highway mpg, while I’m struggling to get the ciry mpg numbers.

It's a 3.5 twin turbo hybrid, I've been averaging 24.5 mpg and it is rated to tow 12700. It drives in electric mode roughly 10% of the time

I dont know why people here get so salty about other people's new ride and have to compare to theirs. Ego issues?

But anyway congratulations on your new ram purchase. In current market condition ram has position itself as the best value fullsize truck!

I am sure u will be back in jeep in future!

I had a Silverado with the flip up arm rest/center console deal. It was nice when the girl I was seeing then wanted to sit there. Otherwise, it would have been awkward. A Ram isn’t any bigger.

Anyway, just a random comment. Y’all do you if you want to have people sit like that. Don’t care enough to discuss it more.
It's even nicer than for when your girl is laying face down if you know what I mean ;)

But, alas at this point in my life it would just be handy for the dog or being able to take the parents and the family in one car to the zoo.

Its just too bad your choice is mostly a base model with the center seat, and adding even just a rear sliding window

Not sure what any of that has to do with their sales numbers. The Toyota Tacoma is complete shit, reliable shit, but trash. It’s the number one selling truck in its class.

Sounds like some personal bias. Can you show us where the general touched you?

I have a 2000 Ram that is rotting away (while it has had a good run, we are talking Swiss cheese all over the place). Really wish I never got rid of my 2004 Chevy z71 for my 2015 F-150 Lariat. That truck was in and out of the shop, and among other little (but very annoying) things the 4x4 auto never worked right, which pissed me right off and at this point I won't really even consider a new ford even though I really did like the 5.0 coyote.

Point is - all 3 put out their share of turds and as far as specs go, Ram certainly is in last for pure truckishness in both payload and towing in max configurations (but even then, at either 13,200 for the chevy or 14,000 lbs for the Ford - you should really have a Super Duty / HD anyway) but its coil springs and air ride suspension sure woo the car and driver journalist types ?

Congrats to the OP on the new truck. I think the Ram 1500s are a good ride, even if not my first choice on the current crop of full-sizeds (but probably close)and there do seem to be better 'deals' for the savvy buyer over the others.

In addition the Ramboxes would really work well for my use case (too bad Stellantis is currently hiding them behind a paywall on only $60k+ trucks right now for whatever 'reasons') to the point I might almost pick it despite my preference for the current chevy/gmc for powertrain (the 2.7turbo4 massacres the 3.6 and the 6.2, well... as good as the 5.7 Hemi is, it had no chance against it. Sure the 5.7 Hemi is better than the 5.3 and probably the 2.7t (closer than you'd think, particularly for our friends at altitude), but the 6.2 exists and for whatever the reason, Stellantis never put the 6.4 in their full-sized trucks but stuck it in a 4 door sedan for over a decade) and infotainment / cabin appointments (surprising, I know - go sit in a 2022 Refresh LT/RST trim and compare it to a Big Horn).

your right about all three producing good and bad products over the years. It really depends on what gen and model we are talking about. Not a full size truck, but I bought a 1999 GMC Sonoma that was a total turd sandwich. My father bought a Chevy Silverado a couple years later and it was a solid truck.

I didn’t need max payload or towing. Like you said, if you need that much, get a heavy duty. Interior is subjective, but I definitely like the Rams 6 seated interior the best. I would have been happy in any of the big three. Deciding between them is certainly a first world problem.

if I wasn’t towing and using that 6th seat once in a while, I would still be in my favorite truck, a Gladiator.

Where’s the Nissan Titan folks at?

I drive 800-1000 miles a week for work, mostly highway miles, but it drives in electric most of the time for city miles

I didn’t realize it was a hybrid. It does look like it gets 25city/25highway. So stand corrected. I don’t know why there are not more hybrid options like yours. It gets great MPGs.
