Yes I know tires are beat to death. Sorry.

So I've spent the last week researching and over-thinking new tires for my Willys. I had it narrowed down to Goodyear Duratracs in stock size of 255/75-17. Well in reading more it appears these aren't the best on wet roads. And are best in deep snow. Which we don't get much of here.

So I'm back to what my original first choice was. Falken Wildpeaks in 255/80-17. Same width and almost an inch taller. Here is my concern. They weigh a few pounds more each than the stock KM2's. I'm wondering how much of a negative effect this will have on mileage. Also with the fact that the Wildpeaks have a much less aggressive tread, would that have a positive effect on mileage. I know these aren't vehicles built for good fuel economy. But with rising fuel prices, mileage is starting to come into play.

Again sorry for yet another tire thread. I'm ducking the pitchforks and spears. LOL

I put duratracs on my wife’s QX and they are great.
So great, I put them on my JT.

they are 35x12.5R17.

I’ve driven in sprinkling rain to rain so hard you can’t see but 6 feet in front of you. No issues. I’ve hit a good sized puddle with the right side only and it didn’t try to pull me into the curb.

Being in Texas with a ski trip up to Colorado, they’ve seen pure ice, compacted snow and 7ā€ of powder over ice, and did beautifully.

It’s truly a ā€œjack of all tradesā€ tire and just about masters them all.

A couple lbs shouldn’t make a HUGE difference. But thats my opinion.

Side note..i went with 285/75/17 yokohama geolander g015 and absolutely love them. Incase your looking for other options

Check out Cooper tires in whatever size and tread you are looking at. We have always had very good luck with them and is currently what I have on and will be putting on wife’s as well.

I guess what I'm really looking for is how much added weight will affect mileage in a negative way. And if a few pounds per tire affects it, or don't you start noticing until you start adding 10lbs or more.

And how much a less aggressive tread will affect it as well.

Again I'm not ignorant to the fact that the Gladiator isn't meant for great mileage. But lowering fuel mileage does add cost in the long run.

Well if you go with a mud terrain compared to all terrain it will hurt MPG.
My stockers that I listed in my OP are BFG KM2s which are a mud tire. ;)
Looking to go A/T.

You should check out the Toyo AT3. They were built focused on wet conditions. I was going to get them, but last year they were hard to find so I went with the Toyo AT2. These are my second set and I love them. First we’re on a 2-Door JK.

I have the Toyo AT IIIs in 285/75/17, had them through the winter they were good in the snow and good in the rain. They are 3pmsf rated which makes a big difference in wet traction also.

They look good, on my short list, how's the noise? Another note the factory Dueler AT's have the shoulder tread blocked and are downright snow dangerous, turn the wheel, truck go straight... wouldn't bite in. No bueno

Little to no noise, I ran the Falken AT3w tires for a little while, they were also pretty quite but made a little more road noise than the Toyos

My stock JTO Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts @ 255/70-R18 said they weighed 41 lbs. My Nitto Ridge Grapplers @ 295/70-R18 say they weigh 64 lbs. I'm also confident my new wheels also weigh more than stock. I'll let you know when I get gas how much my mpg went down.
