I have been thinking of switching from an M/t to an a/t for a while and went down a rabbit hole of trying to compare price to quality of tire. This forum gave so much great information about different tires to look at and setting some expectation on what to expect after the switch. I figured I would update on what I had, to what I bought, to what I am seeing so far..

My Gladiator came with 255/75/70 fire stone M/T's . What I noticed is they are loud but, drove comfortably to a degree. MY driving requirements recently changed, more high way, I off road mostly on sand or compact dirt not much deep mud.

I finally decided to go with the TOYO open country III A/t 265/70/17. Let me just say first wow what a difference. The tire looks great and feels great. The ride is much smoother and a lot more quite. I did not buy the Glad for MPG but, I already do see a jump in my in town MPG. I have not taken them off road but, based on the reviews and info I sure they are going to perform well ( will update with that info)

Over all I am very happy with the choice of the tire and switching from an M/t to a A/T for what I use the Gladiator for. For those that are thinking about making a switch let me know or feel free to ask me any questions.

I will edit and post some pics of the new tires.

I also have a Willys and am looking at switching to A/T tires. Specifically the Toyo A/TIII (in a 35 though), so looking forward to the pics and further thoughts.

One of the most asked questions ... "What's the best tire" ... the real answer.... there is none. It's solely dependent on your rig, your intended use, and also preference. In our part of this earth we tend to run MT's ... not that we enjoy mud, but we do find ourselves passing through spots of it from time to time. AT's like to pick up and throw rocks, but do tend to give a higher level of Winter performance over the MT's ... most would also be well served with a general all season. So back to the three points above.

So far I really really like them. Over all they have exceeded my expectations on A/T. I looked into so many tires wrangler, KO2's, grabbers, generals.. Pretty much all of them. I live in the north east so I needed a good balance for any type of weather and they all had there pros and cons. The compounds used to make the TOYO make it an ideal choice for all the different types of weather I run into and I like the way they look hehe.

I plan on going to the sand pit this weekend and will let you know how they handle.

I switched from the falkin wildpeak m/t to at3 for the winter and although I like them for driving on the road, I missed the grip of the m/t.

I also went from the Firestone MT's to the Toyo AT3"s. Purchased a set of 35*11.5/17's from Discount Tire. What a difference on ride and drive. Though I did see about a 2mpg drop with the 35's, I still feel like it was worth the money.

As a comparative, I have the Falken wild peaks on my sport s and have been impressed with the ride, handling and control except in snow. Being in a willys loaner with the M/Ts has been a noticeable improvement in the snow but much worse mileage and road noise.

congrats on the new shoes and rising above the nay sayers on here. Theres a lot of hate on ANYONE looking for improved Mpg of any kind.

“iTs a BriCk”
“I dIDnT bUy iT fo da MPG”
“sMiLeS Pe GallOn”

ect…ect…

enjoy the silent comfy ride! Haha

I was between the toyos and firestone destination at2 and recently went with the firestones largely because they have a low rolling resistance.

just food for thought incase others are looking for good at tires w/white letters

I gotta replace my shocks first then tires since the shocks are causing an issue with the tire so doesn't do any good to do the tires before shocks
