I think Jeep did it for a safety thing as this is what they put in their manual. They dont want it engaged until it is about to be used which means not on when you turn on vehicle regardless of whether a speed is set or not.

Doubt you can change it as it is probably not a setting that can change. Never had a single vehicle that left it “on” between start cycles.

My point of view is what is so hard about hitting one small button with your finger to turn it on? A lot of people today would freak over old cars that had chokes, etc. How would they ever drive with everything they had to do when getting the car going? And OMG actually physically turning a dial to find a radio station.

I think we have all gotten lazy. IMHO.
I have an old VW. No cruise, ac or anything. It does have a choke, but it's automatic. You set it by pushing the gas pedal to the floor before you start it, and as the element warms up, it disengages on its own. I also had an old TJ. Same deal. But it's not a new "getting lazy" thing when cars I've owned model year 1997 or newer did it. It's not a new thing.
It's not a huge deal, but I just have gotten used to other makes having a memory. Our old jeep didn't have cruise at all, so I didn't ever think about it there. It's just lack of standardization between makes that makes it confusing if you switch between cars. It's not the worst thing ever, but if jscan or my tazer can get around it, I'm all in.

As far as auto safety rules and gov. regulations. Just the messenger...
But other brands do have a memory, so it's not a regulation. VWs, Hondas, and I believe my 2015 and 2017 Subarus remembered it. On those, It doesn't engage without you hitting the set button (that would be dangerous), but it does remember if it was on or off.

Certain current Chevy vehicles have a toggle switch that can stay on, so this isn’t likely government oversight.

from what i remember from my short drive of the bronco, hitting "set" automatically turns the cruise system on, so it's a one button engage.

If they are designing a cruise system like that on a brand-new vehicle, it can't be a regulation thing stopping Jeep.

Nothing to win. Just pointing out, as others here have mentioned, that other car companies have a cruise memory. 'Tis all. Just the lack of consistency across the industry on this is slightly annoying. Cheers?

It's just a convenience thing for me and muscle memory from my Silverado i traded in to get the JT. The other oddball thing is that jeep put the cruise buttons on the right half of the steering wheel were Chevy was on the left...so that's backwards to me yet as well!

Funny thing is, the on off button on most of my vehicles is right next to the set button. Only one extra click than a vehicle that stays on, yet here we are talking about it.

We must be bored!

I have a 3 Fords that do not stay on after a restart. The Duramax cruise will stay on.. The Vw Jettas I own have a toggle switch that I never turn off. Either way it's one or two clicks.

I couldn’t help myself. I checked my wife’s Volvo. It only has a set button. No on/off at all. Set and on are one in the same.

Neither the 2017 GMC Sierra Denali, nor the 2017 GMC Canyon SLT that I had would keep cruise on when power cycled. The only vehicles I've ever owned that the cruise stayed enabled had the toggle switch on the column stalk.

Is it too hard to press the cruise button a split second before pressing set? Press cruise with the tip of your thumb, then just roll your thumb down to set... What am I missing?

It's not difficult, just different than what i've had to do in the last 5+ years with my Silverado. That on top of the fact that it's now on the opposite side of the steering wheel just throws off the muscle memory.

Only vehicle I have owned that keeps the cruise on after shutdown/restart is my son's mitsubishi. Audi, subaru, ford, other jeeps, all have to be turned on after each start.
My experience also. I've never owned a car where the CC stayed on after a power cycle.
Same here. I'm pretty sure my old TJ would turn it off with a key cycle and all my Fords definitely did.
Both of my Silverado's i had before my JT and my wife's Acadia all keep theirs on after power cycles.

Even my 2002 Silverado would stay on after shutting the truck off. It must be a ram/jeep thing, neighbor has a 1 month old 1 tom ram I drove the other day and I had to turn it on each time I restarted it

Our neighbor has a 2017 Acadia and her cruise stays on after the vehicle has been turned off.
