Hi all,

I am reaching out to see if anyone had trouble getting the car registered in NY.
I purchased the JT from Gupton in July and got the car financed through Fortera.
Just came back from NY DMV and they are telling me that they need a certification of Lien with Lien #?
I'm like what? the vehicle certificate has the lien holder's name but now NY DMV is telling me that I require a lien #?
I called the Gupton to see if they know anything but they have never heard of this before.
NY DMV is telling me to ask the lender to file MV-900 form, and then I can register the car. The lender Fortera is also confused as hell, but they were generous to file that form.
Does anyone know what the hell is going on? Am I doing it correctly?
---
Edit 8/23

I have successfully registered my JT in NY.
Thanks to user dcmdon, I reached out to Renee and she sent me a signed MV-900 right away.
For those who are looking to register the car in NY requirements are:

Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin (MCO or COO)
Insurance FS-20, FS-21, FS-75 (Might need to get it inspected in NY without registration to keep the insurance live)
Notice of Lien (need original, and lien needs to mail another to DMV)
Transaction receipt or sales receipt (to calculate sales tax 8.875%)
Tax form (DTF-803 if tax is exempt, otherwise DTF-802, if you owe tax)
Driver License

I lived Syracuse, NY for a while and it was singularly the most unfriendly place I've ever lived.

I'm gonna go with the people at the DMV are making crap up just to eff with you because they can and will never be held accountable.

I have a similar problem with my Jeep purchased from Koons on 5/19. Today is 8/13, and I am on my 4th set of temp plates with no registration in CT yet.

Koons, as in down in Virginia? Have you reached out to them yet?

This whole thing is such a nightmare.

It’s like your job is to charge me a fee for my vehicle to be driven on your roads. The fee goes towards your ability to collect my fee and repairing the roads, which I also help pay for by paying sales tax which has already been taxed by the federal government before it even got to you. Man sometimes you just realize it’s all a sham, but what can you do but play their stupid game own nothing and be happy?

I know the attached file is for Texas but Fortera is on there on page 22 with a leinholder ID number. Would that be it?

Even though its not anything Gupton can help with, I'd reach out to them for advice.

I had heard of difficulties registering new out of state vehicles in MA. But when I mentioned it to Renee, she said, "Oh you need this MA form and it needs to have a wet signature". She went to the MA RMV website and printed it out. We both signed it, she put it in the folder and off I went.

Bottom line. Email Renee for her thoughts.

Yes, I think that is the number DMV is looking for. and I believe that number varies depending on the state.

Do they not use a service to register the cars and get the plates to you? Sure it may cost a couple extra dollars, but to not have to deal with the DMV is priceless.

I had a new malone trailer and they couldn't wrap their heads around why the bill of sale was dated and notarized prior to the actual sale reciept that was actually needed.

I tried explaining that a notary stamp only tells you that the person signing the document actually signed it on a particular date, it does not act to verify the transaction.... Well that didn't go over well. Lol

The DMV (MVD) in New Mexico also requires that. If you buy in-state it's not an issue, the dealer does that. When I bought a Tacoma in Utah, I got that document from Utah.
