Wanting to add a Tonneau cover and I want the flexibility down to road to add a cross bar system of some point. What options are out there? Show me your set up!

Thanks

There are a few crossbar systems that are made to work around tonneau covers. Even a few racks that have adaptor brackets.

I wound up going with Elevate TS rails and front runner load bars. It is an inexpensive add on that works with many existing tonneau covers.

I have a Bakflip MX4, but If I were doing it over again and sticking with this kind of set up I would have gone with a roll up cover instead to get better access to the bed.

PS it’s all for sale as of Tuesday when my bed cap gets here.

Do you have a link to the front runner load bars that you used? Also, was any cutting at all required? I have a Bak Revolver x4s

https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/us/pickup-roll-top-load-bar-kit-1475mm-w.html

that’s the link to the closest kit I could find on the website. I chatted with their customer service when I bought mine and they recommended 1425mm rails instead of the 1475mm.

No cutting is required if you are cool with using clamps to mount the tonneau. But in order to use the bolt holes near the bed you will need to drill out part of the TS rail to gain access to the holes. I skipped that for the sake of time an just used the clamps. The bolts near the cab still went in fine.

I am looking for covers with that same feature. The Roll n Lock M-SeriesXT retractable cover will work. It has a T slot that works with many rack bar systems such as Thule or TruXedo Elevate TS Rails. No personal experience with it. I'm shopping like you are.

Has anybody bought the BAK REVOLVER X4S TONNEAU COVER? Any advantages of this style vs. the soft roll ups?

They are more secure than a soft roll up and they don't take up space in the bed like the retractable covers.

I just purchased and installed mine a couple weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. I bought a Softopper first for a camping trip and similar adventures, but I found the stupidly easy access to the bed at the tailgate was just too little security for me. I store now for use when needed (install is very simple).

The BAK Revolver X4S has been great. It is secure, and very easy to use and install. In my case it is also relatively easy to remove to swap with the softopper. The T-slot rails for use with cross bars and/or accessories are a huge plus. So far the only thing i'm not totally thrilled with is that the top material is a little harder to clean than I'd like. Bird poop and the like don't just wipe off easily. I've heard the same with the Truxedo Sentry CT. Overall i've been happy with it.

How heavy is the Revolver cover? I’ll be doing a lot of towing so I am trying to be careful on adding weight. The best I can guess from website information is about 70lbs. I was hoping it was lighter. What do you think?

Great thread! We used 8020 hardware for a High School robotics team and I was thinking it could be adapted for a rack. You did a great job. If I wanted to support an 80lb kayak with vertical rails tall enough to clear the cab would your set up be strong enough? Or would you suggest adding braces between the front and rear bars?

I think I am going to go with the TruXedo Pro X15 Tonneau Cover and the Elevate TS Rails. Any experience with this cover?

I like the flexibility of the soft covers even though the BAK revolver is similar, I feel like it will be too cumbersome to roll under cross bars.

What accessories or bars do you know can be used with the x4s t track? I have the x4s, but keep getting vague answers from vendors on what will work with the tracks. Even Bakflip is not helpful. You would think with their product they would have a line of things that would work with the t tracks, otherwise why have them? I do not want those high cross bars.
