Yeah this is why ford is telling dealers to get bent.
And that is exactly what is happening before our own eyes these days. With online buyers becoming greater each day, traditional dealers are slowly becoming dinosaurs. A changing sales climate and Covid are some of the reasons behind it. Dealers know it too and career sales/management personnel are worried.

Eventually today's "dealership" will be minimized as not a place to sit down and consult a salesperson to purchase a new vehicle the old-fashioned way (that takes three hours). Today's buyer doesn't go for that. These stores will become merely a do-it-yourself kiosk of sorts to educate prospective buyers about the product and guide them to a sale and financing with avenues to aftermarket products/accessories.

We all know that used vehicles are where the real sales profits are and have seen how things have changed in this area by the used car vending machine ads on television. It will be interesting to see how things will evolve on the ground at the "branded" dealerships.

Service/Parts/Body areas may take on a new face in the future as well but shouldn't change significantly as these departments are the bread and butter of it all, make the $$ and cover the overhead.

Manufacturers are getting salty about dealers in some areas marking up MSRP's for the sole purpose of store profit. They want more control and straight forward pricing with their brand as competition ramps up at staggering levels. Good for us consumers though! ;)

Either way.......the easy button, find another sales person. These cats make their money on commission. They should be bending over backwards to accommodate you, if not, there's plenty of hungry sales people out there that have families to feed that will make it happen.

Go talk to another sales person. This guy obviously doesn't know his product line.

Being as I'm in MD, too, I would love to know the dealer.

But then again, most of the ones I've been to here are worthless so it wouldn't really make a difference. None of them seem to train their staff. I'd love to find an actual enthusiast salesman but they're few and far between.

If not the dealer, the city/place.

I won’t put his number up but I’ll say if you’re buying a Jeep from an MD dealer think twice before doing any business with a Leon.
Ahh yes, Criswell. There’s a reason I did not buy from them.
I went with Chapman Jeep outside of Philly for 6% under invoice. Hit me up if you want the salesman’s name.

I actually got a quote on a Ranger Tremor from Chapman and it was only 1% under but I chalked that up to it being a cheaper vehicle and ford not having as many affiliate programs. PM me the salesman if you don’t mind.

Also if anyone else has done business with farrish in Fairfax let me know what your opinion is they’re in my range too.

This is excellent. If the OP doesn't want to out the salesman and dealership, others should.

lol, this was a funny read... It's sad when sales people dont educate themselves on the brand they are selling. It doesn't matter what you are selling, educate yourself before you start acting like a know it all.

Criswell and Lustine are two of the worst dealerships I've ever dealt with. Absolute lying sacks of shit who will do anything to get you into the dealership before pulling the rug on you.

Farrish was pushy as hell and the sales dude pulled the same lines telling me things I knew were false. Didn't get past the lot sales guy because they didn't have what I wanted but didn't get a warm and fuzzy. Ourisman in Alexandria treated me well enough but getting initial help wasn't easy. Ended up buying the Jeep Lustine had that I wanted through them for the same price Lustine wouldn't put in writing.

I don’t see why you’re wasting energy getting worked up. Go to a different dealer.

I agree with everything you say, however for 99% of the dealers, their service and body shops are separate companies from the sales department. It has been this way for decades now.

In the DMV, I only know of one dealership whose business includes the same service, body, and sales under one company.

They've been a GM business forever.. Their great-grand children all still actively work in the family business. They are actually a great place to go and while I go to an independent shop, I have been pleasantly surprised to hear how they treat relatives, no over-selling them on garbage, letting them honestly know when it is time to 'let it go,' etc.

I am saying, I think what you will see is sales will be as you describe, then the body / service will just handle warranty-related stuff, and the people who just go to the 'dealer (a sub)' regardless.

I do not blame a lot of people... It is hard to find good mechanics who are owners/operators. A lot of mechanics have gone the mobile route OR "Independent Brand X Certified Mechanics."

The whole economy is in for interesting times ahead...

It isn't just dealerships. Go to a hospital and watch how many different companies you get a bill / your insurance gets a bill from. Get an XRAY? That will be another company...
You are spot on. I did fail to mention that each department of a dealership (for all intents and purposes) are individual companies with separate costs and overhead. Many dealerships are under very large corporate umbrellas, and some still remain as privately owned "Mom & Pop" stores that sell the brand in many small towns across America.

Now retired, I worked for one of those privately owned family enterprises for 30 years with a single store that was very successful selling one brand only beginning in 1962 until the family sold some 40 years later. Of course, it too has been gobbled up by the big boys and is one of couple dozen metropolitan stores today.

I guess I was thinking in terms of "it's all one company checkbook" that obviously doesn't really exist these days. :)

Criswell is well known for bait and switch on prices, trades, etc. I've had several run in's with them and that sales person as well. Waste of time

Plenty of dealers willing to deal out there. I ended up ordering from Gupton and had no issues
