Has anybody noticed that tv commercials seem to show cars climbing mountains and four-wheeling when in fact, those vehicles would probably not even make it up a sidewalk curb! The purpose is to appeal to a certain type, but truth be told there are a small handful of vehicles that actually get muddy, and require modifications for said purpose. Lies, lies, lies. Are we that gullible about products being advertised today?

They advertise capability. They don't advertise your standard use case. Advertisers seek to grab attention and differentiate. Clearly it works, as you're talking about the ads!

It's not just vehicles that they advertise like this. This has been the norm for advertising for decades.

But seriously, Jeep is plenty guilty as well.
They fill their social media with highly modified vehicles and then they deny a warranty claim on a broken lug stud because you put big tires on.

I actually think they started advertising other people's vehicles so that they can use that as their defense, *they* didn't show their OEM vehicles doing anything crazy, some rando on the internet was just showing off their personal vehicle and they retweeted/shared it.

Just an example of why Marketers should be careful with what they promote their products as!

While Black Bear is not the hardest trail it is not for anything other than a true 4x4.
This looks like he chose a bad line, though. Not the vehicle's fault haha

I'm not sure which ones you're referencing.... but I've definitely seen some extremely capable stock vehicles/cars doing some things that a lot of 4x4 owners wouldn't do.

I think it really boils down to your skill/confidence level when navigating the terrain. I've seen stock Subarus go down trails where a lifted wrangler on 35's wouldn't... But that's because of the driver.

I suppose it just depends. I've always been extremely impressed with the Kia Sorento and its offroad capability!

I convince an older man and his wife to turn around one year. He was in a Ford F150 Crew Cab. Got to talking to him and he told me his GPS routed him on the trail into Telluride from HWY 550.
If he was a skilled driver, he definitely could have made it dropping down into Telluride. I'm not sure about going up though. It just depends on the driver, really
