Story time.
Went on a vacation about 10hrs away and the gladiator started having a heavy misfire about 3hrs from home on the way back. Currently sitting in a save-a-lot parking lot with my family and our expedition trailer waiting for a rescue. Guess I'll have to make a return trip later to collect the Jeep after it's fixed.

My father in law has an old disco 2. Only ground clearance stops it and that’s because it’s on stock tires.

Sorry about the JT. The 3.6 is usually a stout motor.

The D2 is a force to be reckoned with off road, especially if you can get one with the center diff lock. I had some slightly taller tires on mine, but it seemed to do better in the ground clearance department than my gladiator.

Just curious…what did you do with it? The wheels and tires are absolutely filthy, but the body looks clean.?

Drove it down some forest service roads to get to a few camping spots we like. The rokblokz do a great job of keeping the dirt & stones off the body.

I miss my Land Rover 109 Series IIA every day.. JTRD on order...
I thought about about buying a defender (not the new abomination) to replace the D2, but wanted something dependable so I ordered the gladiator instead. There's something about those old Land Rovers that that makes them hard to let go.

Old Rovers: The trick is to , day one, rip every inch of wire out of them and rewire it.

They are perfectly reliable after you replace everything. I was so paranoid of having the cylinder liners slip on the disco, I replaced the head gaskets and rebuilt the heads as preventative maintenance. Each model seems to have it's Achilles heel that you need to fix right off the bat to have any kind of faith in them.

you will find that with the gladiator as well, I have a stack of steering parts that will go in day one when my diesel rubicon arrives.

My pipe dream was a 70 series Land Cruiser. The whole Covid thing really seemed to put a damper on the small shops that were importing those though.

We’ll see…maybe in a few years, they’ll start bringing in LC pick-ups. One of those would be sweet.
