Lucky for me there aren't a whole lot of diesel Gladiator's in town. Hopefully no lines.
If it’s anything like the steering gear episode, that’s pure luck. I was told by a Florida dealership that each dealer was only getting allocated a couple steering gears per month.

I downloaded it today from the Apple app store, so it should be on Google’s equivalent also.

It used the same login and password that I have for the Uconnect app. In fact, it won’t let you create another account if you’re already setup on Uconnect.

I guess it is better to have a recall than to have the injection pump come apart and scatter metal throughout system.

Hopefully, we’ll get one of those expensive fuel filters out of this mess. I think they’re on the 20k service interval.
Unless you live in a dirty diesel state like Ny...

Is anyone else start to connect some possible dots here?

By that, I mean, first comes the news that the 3.0L diesel engine is being discontinued in the RAM 1500 and the Jeep Wrangler. Then shortly later, a recall notice about the HPFP replacement comes out.

In a world where parts shortages is the new normal, it’s no small feat to come up with 60,000 fuel injection pumps and the labor to replace them.

Agree. I think the EcoDiesel is phasing out, and the Gladiator is the final frontier. They’ll fix what’s out there to avoid lawsuits, and let the sun set.

On the upside, we’ll all be one heck of a novelty in a decade or so when all those newbie EV Jeep drivers hear us coming down the trail and wonder “they made that thing in a diesel?” I plan on explaining my long and largely happy life with the EcoDiesel to many future trail friends, provided they supply the bourbon and beer.

I hate to rain on your fantasy, but I suspect those EV “greenies,” that you speak of, are no more going to welcome the diesel dinosaurs on a trail with pristine air anymore than many of us currently find the guys “rolling coal” on the roadways amusing.

I’ll add some more thoughts to that with this edit: I’m in the camp with the Toyota CEO, where he explains that EVs aren’t ready for prime time. And when they are, I’ll gladly hand over the keys to my diesel rubie, because for me, it’s a bridge until that point in time.

I’ve had two EVs. Two BMW i3s. The first one was the REX, where it had the generator engine for extra range in case you ran out of charge. BMW claimed I put “too much” fuel (topping it off is a no, no) in the 2.4 gallon tank and ruined the fuel tank emission system, wanting $1,800 in repairs. The second one didn’t have the REX, great car, but not enough range to go anywhere. 100-120 miles if you drove at interstate speeds or ran the HVAC much in a place like Las Vegas, where my second home is.

Owning to vehicles isn’t practical for me because of the outrageous car insurance rates nowadays In states like Nevada. Two vehicles is between $400 - $500 per month in insurance, not to mention payments, or maintenance. And owning one EV isn’t practical because of the range issue. I like to travel. And if I decide I want to move, I want the ability to hook a uHaul trailer up and tow it hundreds or thousands of miles (think Ford Lightning fail). All fails for an EV. And don’t even get me started on how unsafe it is to own anything not capable of surviving potholes and what have you on our unmaintained roadways, especially in the Midwest or anywhere else it snows.

But circling back, I’ve experienced firsthand the nasty brown haze of pollution that is much of the West Coast. It’s disgusting. It’s unhealthy. And we need the greener EV future.

I’ll be heading back to the West Coast soon for winter. Hopefully, when I’m descending into Vegas from the hill near Nellis, the brown funk will have dissapated into other parts unknown,

Parts not yet available….? I’m almost due for an oil change + tire rotation anyway. Hopefully they get the parts soon so I can knock it out in one trip.

I hear you, my friend. I hope the skies are clear for you this winter, and we all make it to “parts available” status without incident. You’re right, EVs might make sense someday. Until then, I hope to keep chugging along.
