For the first few months (6 months, I believe. It used to be, maybe still is, a 12 month freebie on new Jeeps) as long as there is a SiriusXM Guardian account active and paid for.
The SiriusXM Guardian part allows access to lock/unlock, remote start, honk horn, locate vehicle and other stuff through the Uconnect app on your phone. (or even on a computer)

The dealer should explain it all and even demonstrate it if they are worth a hoot.

If you bought remote start with the JT, then uconnect should have it.

It's a 12 month trial (mine expires in 6 days!)

For some reason our 22 sport S came without Uconnect. I'm thinking about upgrading the radio from a 7" to an 8.4". I know the navigation hardware/software is in the 8.4 device, is the Uconnect stuff as well?

I have the Sport S Ecodiesel 21 but it came with remote start with one of the convenience packages. No expiration. 7 inch screen also has the uconnect

Check the window sticker for the truck. Remote start is an add-on that has to paid for. To use the phone app for Remote Functions, you have to have the 8.4 Uconnect and Remote Start add-on. The dealer has to use your email address to setup your account for Remote Service.

The new Jeep app is designed to incorporate the functions of the old Jeep app and the Uconnect App. It still has a few bugs and doesn't yet work for everyone.

But I'd bet is still requires Guardian to function...........

You have seen the Buick commercials, I'm sure, where they show a couple and the guy is using his phone to lock his Buick as they hang in the air - is that a paid subscription as well or does GM do that for free? I don't recall seeing a disclaimer saying "with paid subscription" etc.
