Entire Jeep lineup electrified by end of 2025

I didn't get this feeling at all. IMO it was a long-winded press conference with nothing new to offer other than another anniversary trim package for the JL line.

In recent interviews with Mopar execs, they have stated that there will continue to be ICE choices across all lines. The big EV push is mainly hype at this point. Once the manufacturers realize the REAL demand for these vehicles, the EV fanfare will quiet down.

He clearly stated that "By the End of 2025, the entire jeep lineup will be electrified here in north america" so either the gladiator is dead at the end of 2025, or there will be a 4xe.

Pure ICE isnt going anywhere for ahwile, but like the horse and carriage before it, its peaked and is on decline. Between PHEV, Fuel Cell, and EV's there is nothing the ICE does that one of the 3 technologies cant do better already, much less in 15-20 years.

I'm interested in the factory air compressor on the 392. I wonder if it can be retrofitted to Gladiators. If they plan on electrifying the Gladiator I wonder where they will choose to put the battery. Cabin storage is already tight so putting it under the backseat like the wrangler would suck.

There were a few hybrid and all electric trucks at the Philadelphia auto show this year. It seemed to me that all of them had the batteries lined underneath of the bed, which is probably what they’ll do with the gladiator if they end up going electric.

I don’t think I mind if they did as long as they were able to keep the six cylinder so you can still tow with it

I’m also a little curious if the push for electric will keep pushing companies like Tesla and a few others with their hydrogen engines.

Edit: But this doesn't mean that there won't be the next generation of JL's and JT's that are offered in both 4xe and ICE choices. I don't necessarily think that it is the death blow to the Gladiator.

But no doubt, by the end of 2025 the platform will be updated.

While the 20th anniversary rubicon was kind of a dull thud for me, the fact that we will either see a 4xe gladiator, or the gladiator will be dead by 2025 was the big news to me out of the press conference. Better start saving my pennies now for Big Red 2.0.

I'm wondering if they will have an all electric version in each model line-up as well as a gas version.

Don't compute. They aren't removing ICE from lineup just making sure every model offered has an electric option.

This article didn't cite the source but 50% electric sales by 2030 indiciates that they will be still offering ICE vehicles. Electric doesn't work for everyone.

I hope with a new generation Wrangler and/or Gladiator (I guess they won't be a JL or JT) it will bring the Hurricane I6. Hopefully by then they will get any initial engine bugs out.

People are reading way too much into this, and there's a lot of wishful thinking going on. There will be no new engine choices, unless they are significantly more fuel efficient. The push for electric models is like the addition of ESS, only to keep CAFE numbers in line with EPA regulations.

I always wonder if they just called it an electric power adder or ultra charger or something and deleted the ev button would people instead think it's the best thing since sliced bread since it turns the 2.0 into a V8 with diesel city mpgs.

It seems like a lot of the hate comes from people who are just politically opposed to what they feel it represents and not because they have any actual experience or understanding of the technology.

I've owned an electric car for eight years. They are low maintenance and nice to drive. The limited range has always been an issue. The only things I've had to replace are tires, wiper blades, and the 12v battery. The big battery was replaced near the end of the warranty about five years ago. Most people that have had an electric car will be happy to tell you how great they are.

The problem with electric cars is the high environmental cost to produce them, and the lack of infrastructure to support them. If you don't have private space you control, to put in a charging station, the car becomes very difficult to own and use. The current grid setup will not support everyone plugging in at night to charge.

Electric has always been treated as a niche market, with limited support except where government mandated. Tesla spent the money to build infrastructure and make electric a main stream option. For most people, though, the cost to obtain a Tesla is just too high.
