Stock crank and rods?? Did they live long?
Rods and crank were forged from the factory. Added JE pistons, tons of head work, big adjustable cams, a sheet metal intake manifold, and a T3/T04E 50 trim turbo to make that power. Guys with manual transmissions drove right by me because they didn’t make a big stall converter for the 41te auto trans. So first gear was a dog, second and third was a rocket, and any boost in overdrive would destroy the transmission. I went through 3 of them in 44k miles.

I thought the AFE tubes would give me....something? power noise etc I picked them up new in the box at half cost. They did absolutely nothing. It did give me a reliable port for water methanol injection tho :)

Pretty sure those are cheaper and better than factory. I had the intercooler tubes blow on my old KJ with the VMI 2.8 diesel, and they were $175 each (and complete crap).

tried search, no luck

so our 3.0 makes what i'd call a summer night cricket sound under light acceleration that doesn't mimic the engine rpm. Dealer can't duplicate...and i think it's because it only happens under load. I think they sat there and rev'd it to no avail. I'm not new to diesels and can say this sound is not diesel related.
I'd almost guess by the sound its an air leak on the cold side maybe but can't find it.
Anybody else?
This is funny, mine started doing the occasional cricket sound last week! I asked my kids and they suggested maybe its actually a cricket and I thought well shit, maybe....lol.

Did you ever figure this out?

Honestly no. The diesel is my wife’s. Out of site out of mind. I’m helping my boss build a demon gladiator and have been real distracted. BUT I hate riding in the diesel. I have really tried to pinpoint the rattles and squeaks from the back, with no luck yet (and I’ve taken the glass panels out of the sky one touch etc).

the cricket sounds…once I get caught up I’m pulling the turbo tubing out and inspecting for holes.

On the bright side we drive it on a short road trip this weekend and it got 30mpg. At 75mph you can get 30mpg and still hear crickets from the front and what sounds like a trunk full of groceries from the back when it’s empty. Fun times.

I will definitely report back when I take it apart.

I am having the same issue on mine. Found this thread on the Wrangler's forums
https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/chirp-whistle-in-brand-new-ecodiesel.93198/
and they posted a video replicating the issue(you can clearly hear the chirping noise with headphones). Wondering if you have gotten any updates.
hey thanks for keeping this alive. I’ve seen that thread. It’s not the same. His seems to associate w the steering. Mine is rpm matched to the engine. It’s like there’s a hole in the charge tube and boost is escaping under throttle w a rhythm that matches the rpm. Similar pitch at tone as that vid ironically.
man’s sadly no I haven’t taken mine apart yet to inspect boost hoses. My wife is in it all the time and the noise doesn’t bother her.
I promise I will take this thing apart eventually.

Mine is also throttle related, it is more noticeable in the low RPMs 1400-1500 and cruising at 25-30mph. The thread on the Wrangler's forum also has other people mentioning that it happens when throttling at low RPMs and around the same mph. Someone said in another forum that it could be the electronic injectors. I am far from a mechanic so I wouldn't know, the noise doesn't really bother me but I am concerned it might cause other issues down the road.

Yeah i'm starting to wonder if its fuel related myself. I pointed it out to my oldest son this week and now he can't NOT hear the chirp. We do a lot of high volume radio driving!

Here is a link for a video I took this morning, if you use headphones you can hear them. I do a lot of loud music driving as well so the noise is not a problem.

Mine chirps too, and I'm wondering if that's why I get sh!t MPGs. I get 16-17 in town and 19-21 on the highway.

I am at the 24-25 mark around town and close to 28 if I light-foot it on the highway.
